| Growth Spurts? Paw Size? Does this really matter? The breeder we got Keeley from said that he had just gone through a big growth spurt. We took him to he vet and he weighs 3.4 lb at 10 weeks. His mom was 5 lbs dad was 3 lbs. And his little sister was teeny tiny. She had said he was born small and then had gone through a growth spurt and would slow down on his growing because "he already had his growth spurt". And he'd probably be about 6ish. She pointed out that his paws are small on his legs, and that puppies grow into their paws. (To prove that he really isn't going to get much bigger) I know that is true with some dogs, I am just not sure about Yorkies... Not knowing too much about Yorkies growth patterns when we got him I assumed she knew exactly what she was talking about. But as I have been reading on here and seen those charts, that puts him way off of them. Is he going to be a big boy, or could she be right and he just grew early? I am so confused and feel like she didn't really tell us the truth... We were hopingfor a somewhat smaller dog (up to 7 lbs). Any thoughts? TIA--T(hanks) I(n) A(dvance) |

| I sorta calculate by the 8 wk x 3, 12 wk x 2. That would put your baby in the 7 pound range I think. It is all a guess. Also, if they are fat or thin. My girl is about 8 and my boy 6. They are still small, easy to carry and healthy. Zowie got up to 13ish when she was pregnant, I still loved her

| Pebbles was 2 1/2 lbs at 8 wks and was 5 lbs at 16 wks. now she is 4 1/2 months and is almost lbs. Both of her parents are in the 5 lb. range. How big do you think she will get? I thought she would be 5 lbs but I see that, that is not going to happen!

| My guess is about 6lbs. My dog is 5 mos and about 51/2 lbs. From what I have read alot of times they stop growing after 6mos.

| The little yorkie I'm getting weighed today at 2.25 lbs..( he's 9 weeks) The parents are both in the 3 lb. range. We were both surprised he weighed that much. She said the same thing ..they go through a growth spurt and slow down. . We'll see.... |

| Okay, that makes me feel better. I don't think it was the fact of size that was frustrating me, but that I felt the breeder was just saying stuff to get a sale. KWIM? (know what I mean). Does anyone know anything about paw size a yorkie puppies? |

| I have heard that you can go by there bones and if there ears stand up early that is a sighn they willstay small dont know everyone has there own way of guessing but no one knows for sure. The vet says there is all kinds of things people use it just really is hard to tell you can guess. |

| I've always wondered how they guess...Chloe is 12 weeks today and I JUST weighed her-she is 2 lbs and 2 oz. Her ears stood up at a very early age. They are completely up and have been for awhile.

| the ears standing early doesnt have anything to do with what a pup will weigh as an adult, most puppies slow down in their weight gain at about 6 months. Also many babies will lose weight once leaving for their forever home because they are no longer being fed in a pac. They begin eating at their own pace. I free feed my babies so when they leave they are fat and happy example my little runt in last litter left weighing 2.5lbs at 14 weeks I saw him the other day at 6 months he is now weighing 3.5 pounds he will be lucky to reach 4 pounds. BTW his ears were not totally standing when he left and now are.

| Pups can have a growth spurt but don't count on it stopping. The parents don't always suggest the pups size. There are many other relitives involved there. You just never know by the parents. Large paws can show large bones which will probably be a bigger Yorkie. I have also seen that ears usually do come up faster on the smaller ones than larger ones. Also tiny noses usually mean smaller. In my experance anyway. But its always a bit of a guessing game, I have seen yorkies grow up to 18 months and some quite at 6 months. |

| Some of the smallest puppies I have ever seen actually weighed much more then what they looked. I have seen a 3 pounder look like a much bigger dog then a 6 pounder because they had longer legs. I think the weight should not matter all that much. I had an 11 pound girl that I adored, the only problem was she was too heavy to lug around much. I am getting a new baby and is supposed to be small but had a growth spurt and weighed 1 pound at 4 weeks! she is super small but very fat. I guess you just never know what they are going to turn out like for sure. |

| puppie size Yeah I know that some also have thicker fur as well and that makes it harder to guess the size I have 3 litters right now and they were weighed and weigh1.3lbs at sixs weeks. and some weigh1.5lbs but it looked bogger then that so i think it is all a guessing game. |
