| archie's too hot... it's hot in NY and Archie has been sleeping a lot and hasn't eaten. he was at the beach house yesterday and was running around, and then he was in a car on the way home. he also didn't go to the bathroom at all today, and he threw up yellow bile. do you think it's because of the heat? he's drinking water and peeing OK, though. This is his first experience in this kind of weather... How are your yorkies responding? |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Sounds kind of like he had a really busy day...if he isn't used to the heat I think they'll react by not eating - just make sure he drinks and watch him for any more throwing up - the car could have made him queasy also...poor baby - I hope he feels better ! |

| Maximus and I are in NY also..and it was so nice out yesterday I figured I would let Maximus go out and explore for a while...well it must have pooped him out also..because he basically didn't want to get up and move from 2pm on till this morning..lol, and the a/c IS BLASTING in the house....so I attributed it to the heat also...I think it takes them a while to get used to???...he didn't want to eat much yesterday but by 9pm he was hungry and ate his food and drank some more water..this morning he was laying down when I left for work...so I think he is still pooped..lol, I gave some nutrical just to be on the safe side |

| I don't know about NY but here in the South I have to keep a good eye on my dogs during the summer so they do not get heat stroke. The fiirst sign of it is heavy panting, rapid heart rate, sign is slowness. I heard they will vomit if it is extreme but my dogs have never gotten that far. If they get too over heated, I will wet them down to cool water(not ice). I make sure their belly and the area around the inner legs are wet(where their blood vessel runs). I heard that major heat stroke can cause lasting damage(respiratory wise) but don't really know too much about it. I hope this info helps |

| I have another dog who can't handle excitement in the heat. The only trips she ever gets to go on is to the vet and back. But, something to consider is getting a cooling mat. They have them at Petsmart and Petco. You just fill it with cold water for the puppy to lay on. It cools them down physically, and helps them to calm down, and not be so excited. You could even use it in the car. Good luck.

| We have harwood floors and because the a/c is so high I kept moving him yesterday onto his blankie or bed so he wasn't lying on the floor..but it must have felt good to him....now a quick question seeing as how the a/c is on really cold (landlord controls it)..I have a heavy blanket but Maximus sleeps in his bed (one of those beds you climg in and has fleece lining) at foot of the bed on the floor..he has a blankie is he getting too cold?...I put pj's on him but he refuses to stay under the blankie and always lays on top..if he is cold will he seek warmth or just lay there cold?..my bf said he is probaly too hot and thats why..but I'm not so sure..any advice? |

| It's been pretty warm in southern Illinois the last few weeks and Maggie has just been panting a lot. Although a few weekends ago, she was outside in the heat most of the day with her grandpa (she did have water) and later that night she kept throwing up liquid. She went potty on her pad and got a treat and a few minutes later she threw that up. She's doing better now. Today it's supposed to be in the 90's and the AC is on for her so hopefully she'll be fine! |

| Same here in OHIO... Bailey isn't diggin' it at all!! Sleeps alot, and pants just going around the house to pee. I bought him a kiddy pool yesterday,, but as soon as I put him in it, he'd jump out,, hope he might learn to like it! ( like the other post on here, about the dogs that LUV it) Seriously considering the puppy cut,, if this keeps up.

| Texas once again is turing into the hell hole of the world. I even saw the devil leaving town this morning. Maggie has pretty much turned into a couch potato. When she goes out, it's only to use the bathroom, in the shade. Our big dogs are chilling out in the breezeway with a big fan. Our AC is also cranking it out. Maggie is crashed out here beside me with her Winnie The Pooh blankie. Gotta have the blankie. Yesterday I was mowing the lawn, before it got too hot. Maggie was in her exercise pen in the shade. I don't leave her inside, if I'm outside. She has thrown up a couple of times today (clear liquid). I don't know if its from yesterday's heat or not. Keeping my eyes open though.

| Hot dog? I got 3 month old Buffy a few weeks ago and the weather has just turned hot here in NY. I'm assuming it's okay to leave the air conditioning on for her as necessary. Or, is a fan better for little puppies? Any feedback would be appreciated! thank you!! |

| Good...well, not good that your poor babies are going through this, but I feel comforted knowing that Archie is not sick. He has spent all day just laying around. he drank a lot of water today and we got the air conditioners in. I also gave him a good dose of nutrical just in case and my boyfriend said that Archie ate some hamburger meat while I was out and he went for a walk but only in the shade. I feel very bad for my poor baby, but I also heard that it's not good to put cold water on him when it's hot...that it messes with the body temperature. I figure I'll just let him be for a while. I have hardwood floors, too, so he's kinda sprawled out. Poor baby...it's his first 80 degree day... |
