| Too small? I know the idea of "teacup" dogs is somewhat controversial. My wife and I found a yorkie at the local shelter that we may adopt, she appears to be pretty small to me. We can't handle her yet because she has to wait 5 days for her owners to maybe show up so I don't know exactly what she weighs. Her picture is attached, I'm wondering if people have an opinion if she falls into the category of being too small and therefore perhaps more prone to health problems, injuries, etc. All opinions are welcome, thank you. Edit the shelter says she is five years old, so presumably not a puppy. |

| I think most love the little yorkies but do not want to see tiny mother's put at risk just to produce them. That is the big controversy. This little one is already here and needing a good home. She looks adorable and not so tiny as to be a health risk -- except as most Yorkies, you have to be more careful about falls and getting stepped on. She also looks slender -- maybe some good nutritious food will have her a little sturdier in no time. Good luck!

| SOO Cute!! I would take her in a second! make sure she is not missing cause someone out there may be crying for her. I would announce in the local news that you found her or search for a microchip. if no one claims her HEY!!! its yours!! I wish I could find such a cute thing in my shelter. Good luck and let us know how she goes. MAke sure you take her to the vet and do some blood work on her. Maybe they did not wanted her because of health problems. IT IS VERY STRANGE TO SEE A PUREBRED yorkie in a shelter. Who knows anything can happen. WHat do the people of the shelter say? was she dropped? was she strayed? I am happy that she will have a good home. keep us up! Eri Last edited by Chato's Mama; 05-05-2007 at 09:05 AM. |

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | Awww, poor baby She probably just needs some good food in her tummy Little darling... I feel bad for her. I would definitely bring that baby home with you and honestly I don't think she looks too small at all One reason she looks so small is because her hair is cut pretty short I would guess that she is around 4 lbs or so. No matter what she weighs though, she is a sweetie and I hope you get to bring that little cutie pie home with you

| She is so precious and looks like she needs a home to be spoiled in! She doesn't look too small at all, to me she actually looks like a nice size. Her size reminds me of my boy, Jaden, and he is just barely 4 pounds so I would guess she is somewhere around that weight. I hope you get her!! |

| Lots of times when purebred/small/cute yorkies are left at shelters, it IS because they have health problems that their owners can't afford. This is a reality you might have to be willing to face if you take her on as a responsibility. But looooook at that face! How could you say no?! She is a DOLL! Hope you get her, and then stick around to tell us all about her!

| I have one small like her and she is very healthy . The reason why a Yorkie have to go to a shelter is mainly cause by irresponsible owners . They buy those little ones just to show them to their friends and they mostly forget that the little ones need basic cares as the other ones need . When the little ones are older , they send them to shelters and purchase another puppy . |

| Thanks for the info and admiring words about her, she is very cute. Our shelter holds any dog that comes in as a lost dog for five days so the owners can come and claim it. We sincerely hope that if she is a lost dog and has good owners who love her that they come and get her back. (she was brought in as a stray, not surrendered by her owners) Of course every animal is at the shelter for a reason, some reasons are better than others, some reasons can mean problems for someone who adopts the animals, some hopefully not. So we realize we are taking a risk that she could have health problems, behavior problems, etc. But we will manage those to the best of our ability. If she is a good dog that needs a loving home that is great, if she needs some medical care we certainly can get her that as well. Believe it or not there is another yorkie at the shelter right now as well that we are also considering, but we can't adopt both of them. She is ten years old. In fact there have been 4 or 6 yorkies at the shelter that we know about in the last few months. We really want a female yorkie that will get along with our male (Freddie, 11.5 years old). Our beloved little girl Precious died in February at the age of ten after an unsuccessful surgery to try and implant a pacemaker. We miss her greatly and can never replace her. Our house just isn't the same without two dogs so we want to find Freddie a friend. Precious' picture is attached, RIP baby girl we love you. |
