We haven't named her yet.

She seems to be doing pretty well, she seems to have a bit of separation anxiety if we leave her in the basement alone but we're working on that.

She warmed up to me even more this morning curling up sleeping next to me and letting me rub her belly. So things seem to be going well. Another couple pictures when she was at the pound attached.

Well we adopted the little girl pictured above. She is about9 years old according to our vet.

After three days in the shelter she started vomiting and getting diarrhea. The folks at the shelter made it sound like she was an aids patient or something. We took her straight to our vet who couldn't find any obvious problems other than a cataract in one eye. She's a little skinny at 6.5lbs. The doc put her on some antibiotics and anti-nausea meds. He also took a blood sample and we'll get him a stool sample when we can.

We took her home and got her a bath to get her clean (she was filthy). Got her some dinner and then spent some time bonding with her. She started out really shy at the shelter but has really warmed up to us in the last 3 or so hours.

We're keeping her quarantined from our other dog in the basement (don't worry it's a finsished basement with dog bed, blankets and a crate with a blanket too.) Right now she's snuggling with my wife in the downstairs bedroom. So things look good, our boy Freddie has heard her bark but is really being pretty cool about things. So we'll see how things go.

She now has found someone to love and is afraid of being alone again.

What a great thread to come upon! First to know that there are wonderful people like you and your wife who are willing and able to adopt an older dog.
Second because the first one was reunited with her family, because Freddie has a new buddy, and last, but not least, because your new little beautiful girl has a good home.

Keep us posted.

I do have to agree with Villette though. It is not a good thing that there are Yorkies readily available now in shelters. They're so trendy, and then people get rid of them when the reality of owning a dog sets in.

So...this is what we have to do...if anyone asks if they're good pets, easy to take care of, etc...tell them NO!! Tell them they're difficult and demand clothing and jeweled collars and even shoes, only eat lobster or filet mignon and require daily grooming.

They need satin beds, and need to be taken out potty 8, 10, 12 times a day, yearly teeth cleaning, and demand that they have a brother and sister.......

Well the wife and I have decided on a name, Katie, short for Katherine. Our beloved Precious, her full AKC title name was Katherine's Precious as her first owner (an elderly woman who has since passed away) was named Katherine. We hope that Precious and Katherine have been reunited since Precious' passing.

The doctor also called to tell us that the blood test showed everything in the normal range, which is great too. Our biggest issue right now is getting a stool sample and keeping Katie comfortable, she gets anxious if we aren't in the basement with her and barks and carries on. I got her a DAP pheramone thing today that seems to have reduced her barking and hopefully that means she is feeling ok.

Thursday we get to introduce her to Freddie, which also means she'll have the run of the house like he does and then I think things will be a bit easier.

Awwww, she looks like a real sweetie, and she's a cutie too! So many older dogs are passed over....God bless you for being willing to take her on!
