Donating YT 500 Club Member | Yorkies and Laminate I spent most of last week preparing my old floor and starting to install laminate in my livingroom and dining room. I'll spare you the gory details of Home Depot, special order flooring and why the job isn't yet complete ... but, even with 3/4 of it down, I'm a little concerned about damage. Specifically, Ozzie dragging water -- in one form or another -- onto it, either when he gets a drink (wet beard) or happens to get one or more feet wet during a wizz session. Making sure that neither happens, or prompt action when it does, takes more vigilance than I have time for. I was initially concerned about him sliding on it and laying on it (versus the comfort of carpet) but he has allayed fears on both counts over the weekend. He even seems to like hearing the clacking of his feet on it and has taken great joy in putting a nose print on each and every board as it goes down! Anyone else fought or fighting the dampened floor battle? |

| Hi! I have laminate in my kitchen. As long as the water doesn't stay on the floor for long periods of time, you will be fine. You may want to put a placemat down underneath thhe water dish. I did that with Lexie and it works great- even if she dribbles a bit when getting a drink, it usually stays on the mat. Good luck!!

| I was trying to decide what to replace my living room floor with and had many of the same questions you did (especially little feet and accidents when you werent' there to clean them right up) except all the little feet in my house arent' so little. my neo is just over 220lbs and they can do some scratching.my husband with his odd remodelling jobs has but down a ton of laminate flooring and told me not to worry about it it would even hold up to our zoo here. He went into a big long expanation that I will spare you but basically said when the flooring fits together it creates a seal that keeps moisture out and something or other about the way the color is in the laminate that you have to get huge gashes in it to even notice. that's what we're going to go with when I redo my floors. hope that helped some.

| I have Wilsonart Laminate in every room on my bottom floor. I LOVE it...no problems at all with standing water or doggie accidents. I have had the laminate for 3+ years.

| I hear ya..I do not have laminate, I have floating wood floor in livingroom and dining room, and tile in kitchen. Natural hardwood floors upstairs. My little dogs are not bad, but my Golden practically creates a lake when she takes a drink of water..I think you will be fine with laminate flooring. The amount of water created by a little Yorkie beard shouldn't be too much and I believe laminate is quite durable? |

| yes i agree plus the material in laminate flooring isn't real wood. So, it won't warp and get as badly messed up as real wood does. If certain areas are more prone to water damage, i.e. water bowl, potty areas, just keep extra wood on hand for replacing. I've had lola on laminate flooring for a year (since i got her) and there's been NO issues whatsoever. Easy to clean just vacuum twice a week and wetjet once! Sooooo easy. And it's amazing how new it looks once again when everything is clean. |

| The better the laminate, the less chance of liquids causing problems. I recently put in a cheaper laminate in a friend's house. Before we finished, her cat (with a urinary tract infection) left a puddle behind the couch which buckled the edges. We ended up having to take up a bunch of the floor to replace those buckled pieces. But, you get what you pay for. |

| For the water dish, I use a plastic place matt with a paper towel on it. I just change out the paper towel when needed. Sorry to hear you have some issues with Home Depot. Ours has a wonderful staff and we have never had one problem getting anything done and in a very timely manner. |

| I work in a house that is a group home for homeless teens, ten of them to be exact. about 3 years ago the agency replaced the flooring in the kitchen, dining and laundry rooms with laminate floors because of their reputation being very durable. let me tell you that 10 teens can cause way more potential damage than a few little yorkies! But the floors have held up great! there is some water damage but that is near the washing machine which is also close to a bathroom, both of which have broken and leaked causing the water damage. The kids spill stuff and leave spots of water on the floor constantly, but they still look great, don't scratch easily, and clean up well. I'd say you don't have anything to worry about!!

| What about moving furniture on laminate or wood flooring? Do you need to put something on the furniture to keep it from scratching the floor? What about doggie toenails?

| As far as the toenails go, I have a boxer and he tries to run (there is no traction for him) and slides and it hasn't scratched so far anyway. It's been about a year now. My friend has the same floor I do and hers is kind of messed up where each piece connects. Of course its because she has OCD and mops every day lol. But under normal wear and cleaning I'm sure It'll be fine! : ) |
