| My Yorkie Doesn't Bark When He Needs To Potty. I was just wondering why my Yorkie doesn't bark when he needs to potty. He just sits by the door and looks at us.. When we aren't in the room, he goes on the floor somewhere. Anybody got a solution to this?

| Yes, he is wonderful to tell you. What some people do is hang a bell on the door and train the dog to ring the bell when he wants to go out. You do this by ringing it every time you open it. Good luck. You have a smart puppy! |

| Yeah that is a great start for him. But if I hang the bell up, he will just play with it. So I wouldn't know if has to go potty.

Thats exactly what Luig does, except he won't go on the floor. I usually make him stay in whatver room we are in, but lately I have let him waunder. If he doesn't come back to me soon, I usually go peek on him to see where he is. And a few times he's sitting by the door--- just waiting. Sooo cute. So I guess my advise would be to just keep a closer eye on him or try keeping him in the same room with you as much as possible til you get to know when he has to go. I pretty much know when he has to go-- he is on a schedule now. Good Luck!!!! | |

| Ahia does the same thing as yours does miezzi. i have even woke up in the middle of the night and missed Ahia. went looking for her and there she is standing at the front door. hard telling how long she had been there waiting for me. i tried the bell trick but the one who needed the most training was me. i would forget to ring the bell and if i forget then how will they ever get the idea! Buckeye will get up and stand and stare at me then when he knows i see him he will lay down (kind of like looking at me with his hands under his chin). if i don't notice or tend to him soon enough he will come to me and scratch on my leg. excuse me...not scratch... dig!

| Maybe next time you see him at the door, get all excited. Make over him and tell him what a good boy he is, even to the point of hyping him up. Oscar will always bark when I do this! Oscar does not go to the door and sit. He will come to wherever you are and pace...back and forth. If you don't see him, he will get in your face and BARK! Really loudly...like "HELLO...don't you see that I need to go?" He even paces on the bed when he is in bed with us and needs to go...he is a good boy! Good luck with your baby...I found that Oscar did not really need the training...we needed training on how to recognize his signal for "I need to go outside"...once WE got it, he has done really well.

| Good question, as I wish Sadie would bark. I have had her a little over three weeks and she has only barked 6 times. She is a three year old lady, and fully housebroken, but the problem is that I live in a tri-level home and I cannot see any door from where I usually am. I have a deck door off my kitchen, but she cannot go out there to potty. Right now I have newspapers on the deck, hoping she will start using them. I do keep a small bell on her collar, and that does help. She is always following me around, but if she disappears, I notice she is sitting by the door. What a sweetheart. Kate Quote:

| Gus did the same thing. He would go sit silently by the door but if I didn't notice immediately he would pee inside. I taught him the bell trick but he would never ring it to tell me he needed to go potty. He constantly wants to go outside and would only ring the bell after we came inside and he wanted to go back out. I didn't know what to do so I just had to watch him closely. Around seven months old he did start to cry when he needed to go out so maybe it just takes time for them to figure it out. It's not a solution but maybe some hope.

| Bless your heart. Maggie does the same thing. She is only 11 weeks old too. I can ask her if she needs to PP and she will be at the door before I can pick up her leash. She won't even yipe or bark from her crate at night if she needs to go out. |

| Sometimes Gizmo barks or kinda growls, sometimes he does a little dance and sometimes he just goes and does nothing. At his breeders house he would go sit by their door, but he can't have free run of our house yet because our big lab wants to eat him. Gizmo has had a number of accidents in the last 2-3 days... it seems like we are going backwards instead of forwards! |

| I wish Loki didn't bark Loki didn' ever used to bark. But he also used to poo and pee in the house. H e is a year old now, and never does his business in the house. He will scratch and bark at the back door until he is let out, seriously no matter what time it is. But I guess opening the back door is better than stepping in poo when you get up in the morning! |
