| About thinking its reversed sneezing that wasnt. its worse When I got maggie she never did the reverse sneezing altho kizzy did some. But kizzy would kinda snort a couple of times and be fine. Since Maggie was spaded in Dec. I noticed she would do the snorting thing and at first I didnt worry about it. But shes gotten worse and worse and just stands there almost falling to the floor like she cant breath. So I took her to the dr last week. He said she has allergies but it sounded close to astma (SP). But said he wouldnt know for sure without a battery of test and he didnt want to do that yet as it is expensive. So her put he on Elbuterol 3 times a day and said if she did good on it I could cut it down to twice a day. She has done better but once in a while she will have a scary spell that just scares me really bad. hubbys sister passed away Fri morning and we had the funeral yesterday and we werent here to give her the 3 pm medicine. When we got home, one of them had thrown up in the floor and bout time we got in the house good, she had a pretty bad spell. Its like she just cant get her breath and a few times, like last night i picked her up and ran her outside for fresh air and she was fine actually by time i got her up to the door. But it scares me when she does it bad, but ive noticed I think when it starts it scares her and makes it worse because when i see her start i can walk over and put my hand on her and talk to her and soon as she feels my hand and I say something she seems to be fine. wondering if at first it scares her and when she knows i'm with her she feels more safe and secure and gets right over it. I dont know but It does scare me when she has a bad spell. Keep her in your thoughts and along with me pray for her to be ok. thanks for listening. I cried all way home from the vet that day, maybe i'm stupid but I dont want anything to happen to her. I never knew I could love a dog like this till now and I've never been dog person. learn something new everyday .

| I don't want to further upset you, but is it possible that the breathing tube for anesthesia during her spaying has caused problems with collapsing trachea? I have heard this can happen in this manner. Did the vet throughly check her trachea before saying it was asthma. I know some of the tests can be very expensive, but if she isn't getting any better then perhaps further testing is warranted. Sending prayers for Maggie and hoping it is nothing more serious...

| Reading this post really takes me back to when I first got Jazz. He had tracheal prolapse, and any excitement or strenuous activity would bring on this terrifying choking- it did sound just like a reverse cough. I spent many nights holding him, in a rocking chair. We couldn't play with him at all, and his meds made him so groggy anyway. After about 6 trips to the vet (and a negative stool specimen) one day he passed a worm. So I took him back to the vet, for the second time that day. They kept him for a few hours while they gave him a major de-worming. After that, he did much better, although he continued to have symptoms of tracheal collapse for another 3-4 months. Then, apparently, his trachea finally grew strong enough not to collapse. He's a big boy- over 7 pounds, so that may have helped. Hang in there. There is every chance your dog could out grow the problem, if it is tracheal collapse. The morning before the worm, the vet had warned me Jazz might not live, since he wasn't getting any better. If he hadn't passed that worm, we might not have realized that his condition was complicated by the worm infestation, since his stool check had been clear. Hope this hasn't grossed anyone out too badly. But worm infestations in dogs affect their nutrition, their respiratory system, and a spot stool check doesn't always pick up the problem. |

| ya know, I never meant the vet said it was asthma. he just said it sound close to it. But again, I had had them ck her trachea when she was spayed and all of that was fine he said. But I have wondered if maybe it didnt happen until like after the surgery and could have been caused from the insertion of the tube they put in their throat. But at the time I wasnt thinking of that since it was fine at the time they checked hers when she had the surgery. I think when I take her back I'll just ask him to check it again and see if it could have happened afterwards yet caused from it. Does anyone understand what I mean by this? Because that was actually my first thoughts when she started doing this so bad, as it did start about a week or so after her surgery. just before Christmas and she had the surgery on the 1st. but in my mind, I was thinking , well they checked that at the time of the surgery. But it is possible I guess it could had weakened her trachea from the tube insertion. I will keep giving her this meds for a while, he only gave me 28 at 3 a day would only last about 4 weeks. that should give me time to see if it gets better or not. Also if her trachea was weakened from the tube maybe along with the meds helping her breath easier it might help it to get well. But I do think having it chked again wouldnt hurt. It might be a good idea to take her to another vet if he dont seem to want to rechk it and say its all allergies before I settle for that opinion.
