I don't want to further upset you, but is it possible that the breathing tube for anesthesia during her spaying has caused problems with collapsing trachea? I have heard this can happen in this manner.

Did the vet throughly check her trachea before saying it was asthma. I know some of the tests can be very expensive, but if she isn't getting any better then perhaps further testing is warranted.

Sending prayers for Maggie and hoping it is nothing more serious...
