Oh Wow! That is horrible! I am sorry this happened! I wonder what was on her mind??? Thankfully, Mojo hasn't done that before - if so, I probably would have done the same thing. In those situations, you just don't know what to do! I hope you are both alright and that she doesn't do this again! That stinker! ---it would "leash time" - all the time in my house probably! HA!

Yes, that was one of my first thoughts!! I can only keep the gates up so much to block access to the front door because of my two children.
And I by no means think training is a one-time thing. I've paid GOOD money for training and we've done HOURS of it with her. But, she is like a child with ADHD. She can act one way and behave at one time and if something changes in her life or anything new happens (even minor such as a new box in the house) she goes crazy and out of control. I will be back to daily leash training now. I had stopped because of going out of town for the holidays. It totally threw her off. It took us 3 weeks to get her back to normal after the kennel and we took her with us out of town on Christmas, so that's the trigger this time I think.

Well I'm not sure how old your little one is, but if it's any consolation it gets better. Both my Newman who is now 10 yrs. old and my Bella who is now three years old used to do this to me. Newman stopped at around a year and a half or two and now I can even take him without a leash out in the front as I'm unloading the groceries and he'll just walk right behind me and never leave my side. Bella now three still will run out the door but will now come right back for the most part when she's called. Before hand like your pup she would run, run, run and like you although it wasn't right, I did at one time give her a slap on the hynie. I did it more out of fear then actually being pissed. She scared me to death. I don't know what I would have done had either of them gotten hit by a car. It really scares the hell out of you. Glad it worked out for you. Elaine

However, I live on an acreage and I'm not dealing with a city street. It might be worth a try though.

Thats what we learned also. Once we stopped chasing Chachi stopped running. Chachi used to take off like that too and then at about a year and a !/2 old he just quit doing it. Now we can take him out of our fenced yard at any time and he stays with us. Jewels has always stayed with us but it was a major accomplishment with Chachi

That must have been scary!!!!!. Bengi ran away a couple of times, I hope he learns the stay command fasta because I'm so scared when this happens!

this exact thing happen to me when bentley was about 2 months old, and it was SO SCARY! my heart was beating so hard when i finally caught him...and i was so mad! i had opened the door for a split second to check and he darted under me... he stayed in his kennel for hours after this (just like you) i feelt bad, but i can only imagine what would have happen if i didn't catch him! good thing you caught your little one!

Cosmo has done that a few times..he gets soo close to cars too..one time he was barely few inches away from being run over. Everytime he would get out I would spank his little butt and ignore him the rest of the day. and now he doesn't run out anymore.

OMG...I know the feeling. Jack has escaped

a couple of times. Boy, they are so fast. I was so panicked.

He only made it around the corner and then he came when we called him. My first thought was to punish him but I was just so glad he came to me, all I could do was hug him! Now that we have three,

my biggest fear is all of them escaping. So what we have done now is set the expen out on the front porch so that if they do sneak past me they don't get past the pen. I will gladly move it aside or hop over it whenever we come or go rather than me chasing 3 Yorkies down the street. We have it configured so that the mailman still has access to the mailbox but the front door is secure.

I did that about half way into the run. I squatted down and stopped, but she wasn't looking back to notice. And she was too far ahead for me to talk sweetly and her hear me very well. It was windy.
I did think of it though, my trainer taught me that, but Zoie doesn't respond outdoors very well.

I have a Boston Terrier that is like a DEMON when he smells outside. Inside, he is the perfect dog! He has been trained and follows any command given, but let him outside, PSYCHO DOG!
