| hyper yorkie hi every one, and before you guys get on to me for asking this, i do know some things about yorkie, and i know they are hyper , but is there a condition maybe for yorkie who are super hyper? also how do you start to train them to calm down. my baby gets love and affection all the time but he is so hyper, when he gets down from your lap he runs and runs and runs around the couch, he will not let me take pics, put a bow in his hair, rub his belly you know all the fun stuff, he just keeps going and going and jumping and jumping and licking and licking, help

Donating YT 11K Club Member | I don't know how to get them to calm down because Teddy is the same way when he's super excited. He won't stop jumping, licking, running, moving lol London on the other hand is more laid back and calm so I have 2 diff. types of yorkies. I guess it's just how they come. Sometimes I just pet Teddy and say shhhhh to try to calm him down. Or ignore him until he stops. |

| Puppies are hyper. However just be calm and relaxed and realise its gonna take a while. Try the same lesson again and again, just for a few mins ... then give them a break to be a puppy. A good time to try training is just after a long walk .... they are worn out both physically and mentally. A walk can also help you include some of your training elements too. I would get mine to "sit" every time we had to cross a road to reinforce the lesson. |

My furkids Donating Member | This is very normal behavior for yorkies...puppies in general have alot of energy...but, the yorkie breed can be very hyper...I have a 3 yr old and a 6 month old...Sadie used to be super hyper until she turned about a year...don't get me wrong...she still likes to run and jump around but, she doesn't get into "trouble" like the puppy still does...Lillie is more hyper than Sadie right now but, she will calm down as well.. I would rather an active puppy than one that doesn't want to play...this is just how the breed is..

| Cody is on a medicine called Clomicalm that he takes every day for hyperactivity, barking and basically as his vet put it for me "Doggy ADHD" I waited until he turned a year but his vet was the one who suggested I put him on it. Bless his heart. He is a handful. |

Ignore behavior that you don't want. Be careful that you aren't inadvertently rewarding hyper behavior. Do not acknowledge him when he has the "zoomies". Instead, when he calms down a bit, then get a toy (or better yet, train him to get a toy on your command) and play with him. Remember: behavior that is rewarded increases in frequency. Unfortunately, this applies to both good behavior and unacceptable behavior.

| I know what you are going through!! Although I did my research and knew Yorkies were hyper, NOTHING could have prepared me for the craziness that was Rocco. He would run laps around my living room (sometimes over 100 times), climb on everything, steal things he shouldn't get, and still be super hyper even after walks. Visitors were always amazed and felt sorry for us. Thankfully, he calmed down at about 18 months old. He is now pretty hyper in the mornings but lazy through the rest of the day. He will now let us put shirts on him and brush him. We can go out for walks without him trying to go 100 miles an hour. The difference is amazing! Hang in there. It gets much easier

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I think this just means your puppy wants to exercise. One of Joey's favorite games is chase the dust mop. I stand in one place and try to keep it from him. He loves this game and it tires him out before me. I usually sing a football fight song while playing it and now, when he hears the fight song he runs for the mop. Another game we play is fetch, when he returns with the toy, if he doesn't release it when I say "down", I pick him up and he releases it, I then say "thank you" and now saying "thank you" causes him to release the toy. He gets really tired playing these games without wearing me out. Puppies need exercise. Nancy |

| yeah see i go in there and i take him outside to potty and he pees so we come inside and ill sit on the floor and play with im (he loves toilet paper rolls) and after maybe 5 mins he just runs off and i call him and he doesnt respond and ill call him and he doesnt comeback so i go find him and he peeing and or pooping in the floor. is it because he remebers the carpet and peeing and pooing inthe carpet? he doesnt go in the same spot so its not the smell stimulates him to go, he just goes and im at wts end im liek what do i do? do i put him back in the bathroom cause he did a bad potty? or im lost im really gettin g stressed somewhat

| The way we told with Cody is with his constant barking at anything and everything, his screaming in the car and when he goes to bed and the peeing and pooping in the house. He gets real upset when I clean or do anything active. When the vet tries to do anything with him he gets real excited and she could see the anxiety and fear in his eyes. He gets so upset that he expressed his anal glands last time he got shots. It is a behavior issue more than hyperactvity. But, ultimately it was the vet seeing the absolute terror in his eyes that made her say he needed Clomicalm. Without it he is a basketcase all night and paces the floor and cries and barks and acts like he just doesn't know what to do with himself. He is real restless and can not be alone. |
