| Neuter or not? Nervous. Okay guys..Siu Pao is about 6 months old. I know its only right to neuter him but I am really nervous about the whole thing. Its a surgery after all, minor or not. To think I might lose him during the surgery makes me want to back out of the whole neutering thingy. Don't beat me to pulp for saying I might not want to neuter him. I am really really nervous about the whole neutering surgery thingy.

| i know how you feel believe me i was debating on wether or not to do it. But you know what i am not here to tell you what you should do or not do. I am however going to say that i was in the same situation as you i was like my dog only humps his little bed but thinking about the health risks. I rather be safe than kicking myself in the long run you know what i mean. You do what you feel is right in your heart. My baby is my life believe me and i have put off nuetering him he's 9months i shouldnt of waited this long but better late than never

| I know. I get really nervous when he is a little sick and neutering...I will be so so nervous I will not be able to sleep a month before the surgery. If only the vet could tell me that there is no risk at all.

| My dogs aren't fixed bc I use them for breeding; however, when they were about six months old I had to have some retained baby teeth pulled on each of them so they had to be put under. I was very nervous until they called and told me that the pups were fine. Also we have their teeth cleaned about every 9 mos and they knock them out for that, too. They always come back just fine. Your baby will do just fine. I would talk to the vet before hand and see what else they can do to your dog while they have him out. Mine offers to clean teeth, clean sent gands and trim nails. I also would have him check for retained baby teeth.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I know how you feel, but as your dog gets older, he will be more at risk of being hit by a car, simply because he will want to chase the female scent. Also, there is a much larger risk of cancer in unneutered males. Then there is also the marking problem. If you choose the right vet, one who’s familiar with small dogs, I think neutering is safest overall for a long and healthy life. I have 2 more months to worry about it! | It is okay to be nervous about it we all were but he will be fine. Then you dont have too worry about the health risks and you will keep him from marking. I think neutering and spaying makes them much better pets

| I felt the very same way with mine today. She got spayed. They called and said she came through just great little while ago, and now she's back home with me. I was so afraid, and drove some of you nuts with questions about the medications and anethsia! I asked a thousand questions. Called the vets office, and asked what they used on her, just to be told (and by a nices best friend) I need to get off the internet! They wanted to keep her overnight, but I told them I'd rather take her home. I have a crate for her, so she's resting really good in it, and not doing anything she shouldn't do, like jumping, or eating. I understand neutering is easier than spaying, from what I've read here. I'll be getting Adonis neutered as soon as my neices best friend (the vet tech) gets back to work after her hysterectomy. I dread this one too, cause I've had him soooo much longer than her, and he's my #1 child! Just make sure you have something to keep YOU busy all day when its done. And you know you'll get prayers from all of us! |

| How does everyone cope with the after surgery? I have been reading about onesies? How do they look like? Baby pajamas? How will the dog pee or poo with the onesie? How do you put it on since they are neutered and you have to be gentle? Will they scratch their wound? Oh..how about the chances of getting an infection?

| I didnt use a onsie because My vet gave me a spray to ut on the incision that tastes ad so he wouldnt lick it. My vet said he sees more infections with the males than the females. They can also give you a cone if he seems to be bothering the stitches

| I cried the morning I dropped Oscar off at the vet for his neuter (I was fine of course until the vet said those dreaded words "are you okay?"). I was scared sh*tless because he wasn't even 3lbs. BUT, Oscar came through just fine and was home that night - 14 teeth and 2 testicles lighter than when he went in, but fine just the same!

Don't worry about infection - just try to keep him from licking the incision and don't have him outside a whole lot other than to potty (if he's outdoor trained).

| I felt so sorry for Wally right after picking him up. He was so groggy and didn't know what to think about that cone around his neck. But it was no time he was back to himself and didn't even pay attention to that thing. He had no problems what so ever.

YT 5000 Club Member | I agree that I think we are all nervous about getting our little ones put under! And you will be until you get them home with you! Good luck on deciding if you are going to go through with it or not. I am glad that I got Chloe fixed though! Keep us updated!
