| ![]() There isn't much that anyone can say about my Yorkie that bothers me. And - like a lot of you - I have had a million different remarks made. Plus - a lot of the remarks that bother a lot of you -- I wouldn't even take them as "bad remarks" or "real insults" in the first place. If they say their children couldn't be around my dog - that's probably the truth. A lot of children can't be around such tiny little dogs. Or if they say, they'd be afraid to have such a tiny little dog or wouldn't want to have such a little dog --- nothing wrong with this. Some of these little guys are very tiny...... If they say your pup doesn't look like a dog - but looks more like a "stuffed toy." I just think "how true - how true." They are almost too cute to be real. The remark, "Is that a real dog?" is one I feel like making myself at times. Honestly some of these little Yorkies are just too small and too cute to really be a dog. If anyone would say my little dog looks like a little rat -- they should see him when he's wet - Then I tell him myself that he looks like a "drowned little rat." ---and he does --- but ooooooooooooh so cute! (I had a pet rat when I was young - and I loved that little guy - he was so cute and affectionate and playful..... so this term just doesn't bother me that much!) Beside I always take this remark as being more a "size thing" than an insult. I think a lot of us take our little Yorkies out to show them off -- but we forget to leave the "little Yorkie chip on our shoulder" at home. I'm always friendly with people who makes these sorts of remarks.....and, they generally come around and decide that I have a very cute little dog after all. This really is true almost all of the time. I know for sure -- if I acted offended or made some smart remark back to them -- they would think even less of the little dog I have. I don't want that. And - very rarely, - if someone really doesn't like little Yorkies - or little dogs -so what!!!!! This just doesn't bother me at all! I have a girlfriend who doesn't like chocolate - go figure! | ![]() I took My joker in to a convenience store to pay for gas, he was looking so cute and wanted to show him off, really. The lil old man in front of me turned to leave, and looked at Joker made his eyes as big as a hoot owl and said "Girl what is that a long haired rat!" "Never seen a rat with a bow in their hair" Everyone started laughing cause the man was so darn cute. THen he took one finger tickled Joker under the chin and he got a puppy lick. I never took offense and Im certain the man didnt mean anything by it. He was just being silly, wouldnt have surprized me if he had a yorkie sitting at home on the couch waiting for him. |

| ![]() LuvDorkieYorkies -- I agree with you 100%. Often these remarks aren't meant to be rude...... and, more often than not, if you handle them well - you end up with a new Yorkie friend. ---- And quoting one of our posters ----- "You are right he is pretty little, and just think at only 10 pounds he still has a bigger penis than you.....I think this remark is far ruder than anything anyone has ever said about our Yorkies. Hopefully, not many people heard you say this. I'm sure if we all responded with remarks like this -- no one would like us or our Yorkies. I can't imagine any woman or girl saying anything like this. Why would someone's remarks about your dog being small bother you so much. I could have honestly told that man that I like big dogs too --- but had to get a smaller dog because I have a bad back and it's almost impossible for me to care for and bath a big dog. So much for that!!!! And -I would go on my way. ***** If some of us are so concerned about people around us being rude -- why are we the same way........or worse!!!! It only proves that we are no nicer or better than they are. I know we're not supposed to critize members - but I'm me - and sometimes I just can't help it..... Believe me I am definitely no hotty totty prissy female. I can hold my own with anyone.... But I have to draw the line somewhere. So you can all bash me big time!!! Carol Jean |

| ![]() My little sister kept calling Rocky a little rat when I first got him. I would just ignore her, but it did bother me. Finally I said "You know what, that's rude and I don't like you calling him that" and she apologized, and I haven't heard her say anything since. I think it all is in HOW people are saying things vs. what they are saying. If someone is just joking and being funny, but means no harm I probably wouldn't snap, but if they were being rude just to make themselves feel good, I would definitly put them in there place. I guess I'm more stubborn like that. For those of you, like SnowWa, I think it's awesome and really respect how you handle these rude people. Me on the other hand though, I have a mouth and I don't take crap from anyone. Especially if someone I love is insulted, I just can't walk away and be the bigger person.

![]() ![]() We had a couple here yesterday and the boys greeted them at the door like they always do. I saw the look on the woman's face and knew immediately she wasn't impressed with the boys so I picked them up and held them. After a few minutes she said it was o.k. to put them down, they wouldn't bother her, so I let them down. Well, she played and petted them, talked baby talk and gave them kisses. The boys had no idea she had a preconceived opinion about Yorkies. After a while she confessed that her first thought was 'oh great...yorkies ![]() | |

| ![]() Actually, I'm lucky I guess, because no one's ever told me that. When Sadie was just a puppy, everyone said she looked like a little stuffed animal, which I didn't mind because I thought so too. I think somehow people know not to say that to me that she's not a real dog...my head might start spinning around, smoke would come out of my ears & I'd seriously go off on them. I swear I'd be like a Mama Lion protecting her cubs. Don't mess with me when it comes to my baby!! But I need to prepare a snappy smart@$$ comment just in case..... ![]()

| ![]() Our male, Casanova, is a little guy..4.0 lbs on a good day and cute as a bug but he is soo smart....he knows when someone doesnt like him, he gives them THE LOOK and if they have a rude comment my daughter says in a really low voice (too low for the enemy to hear), "watch him"! With that little command our Casanove pulls his lips back and takes on guard dog stance...they dont have much else to say! I have to admit that 95% of the comments, I have heard, have been positive and like someone else mentioned...folks usually are just curious and want to start up a converstaion so they can get closer to our little guys. The one inquiry I did get that I doubt anyone else ever heard was quite funny; While in the mall with our Casanova (probably 8 mo old and weighing 2.0 lbs) a group of women from India came up to us and asked (seriously), "Is that a guide dog??? Can you see a yorkie leading one thru traffic, or crowds?!?! I thought it was pretty sweet...maybe they too just couldnt think of anything else to say to get closer but they seemed very sincere. LOL |

| ![]() This has never happened to me, but if it did, you can be sure I'd tell the person where to go. It's just plain rude, and I can't believe that anyone wouldn't realize that. I wouldn't let anyone get away with being rude and insulting to me or my dog, but that's just me. Those of you who can be more forebearing--more power to you. |
