| ![]() This disgusts me more than I can even begin to type. i mean how can a dog tell you if they are in pain or distressed!!!! What makes it worse is NO DOG IS UNTRAINABLE ONLY OWNERS and dogs can be trained not to bark in circumstances it shouldnt. Training is hard work it takes time and dedication but for me de-barking is a lazy, disgusting, way to treat a dog and should be illegal unless surgically required for the dogs health. Ruthx

Mine bark at strangers, when they are playing, when someone knocks on the door, when people are outside....why would I WANT to discourage that!?!? Actually, I trained my grandparents dog (used to be my dog) not bark by getting this training device that emits a high frequency noise. I sat for several hours outside and everytime he'd bark or jump up on someone, I'd set it off. Took about 2 days and that ended it. They make bark collars that have sound sensors on them as well if I am not mistaken? Never tried another method...never needed to.

To take one of the most vital communication skills away from an animal...is cruel to me. I think there are other more viable solutions....i.e.....Clicker Training. Not to mention re-homing the animal....and getting a Basenji.... Francie

| ![]() just wondering what some people would do if it was a skin baby that cried and screamed constantly...what would they do then...... if a dog barks constantly I would think he wants attention or is bored..so fix the problem....if you dont have time to spend with the dog then he deserves a better home anyways.

| ![]() Wow, hot topic. The dogs did sound pathetic and I thought too, she should be out farther in the country and away from neighbors - but that won't be happening. I do feel sorry for the dogs.... ![]() omega |

| ![]() My neighbor is a breeder that debarks her dogs. They still make noise and I think it is more annoying than regular barking. It sounds so painful when they bark. I don't hear them because she is a field away. I am in a rural area and she still does it ![]() ![]() I fixed our barking problem with a squirt bottle of water. Worked wonders. I permit my 2 two to alert us of somebody coming or sounds or whatever but once I say "good girl or good boy" that ends it. It only took a time or two with a quick squirt and I haven't had a problem since. On the rare occaision when they keep at it, I just show them the bottle ![]() I just noticed that this post is #300!!!! Yeah me-I am going to hit 500 yet!!! lol

| ![]() I was going to try and not respond to this but I thought I would just so some of you can see my side and I do understand that many of you wont and that is your right and it is okay with me. I have several of my dogs de- barked , I do not think I am lazy by any means but I do have some yappy kids. And yes I believe I can train them if I wanted to but I like it when they bark their little heads off. But I am a responsible breeder and a very good neighbor. I de-bark so my kids can go out side if they want during the day or night and I am sure they will not bother anyone. I do not want to ever worry about my dogs getting poisoned or worse because the neighbors have had enough. My dogs still make enough noise to alert me of problems or pain and they still bark like crazy and I never have to yell at them or worry about them. The operation is simple and they come home that very afternoon. They can eat right away so I do not believe they are in much if any pain. I have been a breeder for some 30 years and in these years I have had several dogs debarked and have loved the results of every one. I do not have my Standard Poodle de- barked as he is the protector of the little ones while they are outside, he does not bark at leaves or cats or just to hear himself bark as some of the little dogs do. Now a yorkie that is a pet or maybe even two get everything they want they have no need to bark , but if you are a breeder of say five or more, they can get to barking up a storm and then feed off of each other. This is not something I care to listen to and if I had a neighbor with barking dogs I would not at all like to live this way. We pay a lot of money for our homes, life should be good, I just make sure that my neighbors are never bothered by my dogs. They have told me many times how much they appreciate how I take care of my dogs. We do have some very noisy dogs in our neighborhood, but they are not mine. De-barking is not for every dog or for every one, there is always two sides to everything. Before any of you go there if it were my child I would hold them when they cried and I would listen when they talked and every one of you that know me knows that is true, but when my group of kids go outside they are out there to bark and play and have fun, no one has told them they are de-barked , don't let the word out. Thats it , please don't be to hard on me..... |

| ![]() please tell me this is NOT a common practice for "reputable" breeders.
