| ![]() anyone who would do this to their dogs should have it done to themselves and banned from ever having any kind of pets ever!

| ![]() Wow... the breeder that I got Ruthie from had some of her dogs debarked - I had never heard a de-barked dog before but as soon as I stepped in her door and heard her dogs I could tell. They CAN still bark, it's just a quieter, whispery bark that doesn't echo down the street. It doesn't remove their voice box - it removes a fold of tissue on each side of the larynx. Apparently some or all of the bark can come back within a few months too. Obviously it didn't stop me from buying from this breeder - and I don't regret it for a second. I don't think you can generalize it either and say that it automatically makes them a bad breeder - Ruthie's breeder is excellent and has continued to keep in touch with me for updates on how she is doing whereas Oscar's breeder hasn't bothered to respond to any of my emails for the past 4 months and I have YET to receive his papers... I myself would NOT debark a dog... But if I had a cat, I WOULD have it de-clawed... how are they so different? Both are done for OUR sake, not the animal's...

| ![]() A guy down the street from me has three dobermans that he de-barked to "make them look mean" with out causing a disturbance. It's so sad because it's like taking a voicebox away from a person. Obviously, the doggies are trying to tell you something. . |

| ![]() Debarking raises a lot of controversy...But, on the other hand, why are little puppies suffering docking their tails, or ears in some breeds. They say it doesn't hurt when they're days old but who knows for sure??? ![]()

| ![]() A dog barks! Period! Anyone who would have this done to their pet does not deserve to have the pet IMO. Any dog can be trained not to bark all the time. Buddy only barks when he hears a noise. That is what he is suppose to do. He has been trained not to bark unnessarily. It can be done. You need time and patience. Everyone is looking for a quick fix. It's sad to do this to an animal. Carol & Buddy |

| ![]() I think in ALOT of cases, de-barking is just a lazy, easy way out for owners who don't want to be disturbed and don't want to take the time modify the behavior with proper training. Last edited by BamaFan121s; 12-06-2006 at 02:08 PM. |

| ![]() hmmmmm.......i have considered the possibility of getting 2 of my yorkies debarked, only because it does not matter what i do they bark, and my neighbors on the left of me just sit there and complain and complain, saying the dogs are giving them a headache, Emerald started to bark at them ever since the wife sprayed her with cold water. I was told that either they quit barking or I will either have to pay a huge fine or get rid of the dogs, now i have done alot of research on this, not many vets do it, but its a 20 minute operation, they go in the morning, and done by the afternoon, they have a slight sore throat. I DO NOT want to get rid of my babies, just because myneighbor is ignornant. the husband is on the town council men, and he has been spreading rumors around that these dogs are out day and night, I let them out to do business for 5 to 10 minutes, and even then its a long shot, they are upset that i have 5 dogs. not that the fact they bark. Now i have saw it will cost me 150 to get it done, 300 dollars, 5000-10,000 dollar fine, or get rid of them??? which would you do.....still weighing my options. ![]()
