You're lucky that Coco is doing so well and I hope that continues. Physically that's great but mentally they need to be around other dogs so they can learn proper dog behavior. I hope Coco has others she can learn from. By the way she is adorable in your avatar.

I would see if the breeder can keep your new baby longer. If she is a reputable breeder she will have no prob.

thank you for the advice! my husband has been the one talking to the breeder and such and i think i am going to give her a call and see what is going on. as bad as I want the little fella here i do want him healthy. this place is the best. thanks so so much.

Yeah, we also have a poodle that she is obsessed with lol. she doesn't leave him alone!!

I would definitely find out more information about the breeder as well. That sends up red flags all over the place for someone that wants to send one away that young.

The general drift of this pup being too young, is my opinion also. It isn't just the learning this pup needs to do with its mom and litter mates, but also is has just gone through weaning.
I find with my puppies the weaning process puts stress on them. Add the stress of vaccinations, a new world to explore plus a new home and being away from what it is familiar with , will bring on a lot of very scary problems such as hypoglycemia, things like coccidia can become prevalent and a problem, digestive upsets just because there was too much put onto the pup at too young an age. All that can run very high Vet bills and/or death.
And yes, once completely weaned that's when puppies are the most work for the breeder and the most messes to clean up. You really do not want to buy from a breeder that would sell that young.

I got my yorkie at 7 weeks, and now he is 10 month old and very healfy.

I know many people who bought yorkies at this age, and puppiess are just fine.
But it's better to keep him for sozialisation.
For example...my was very hyper at 7 weeks, he didn't gave me any sleep time, he always wanted to play, and bark and running....
It was very difficult days for me.

It is too young. The woman I got Cowboy from wanted me to take him at 6 weeks. I say "No Way!" At 7 weeks, she said "Hey, if you don't want him, others are asking for him". I did want him...terribly so. I had already paid $500 down. I took him at 7 weeks and, thank God, all went well. However, I do know that things could have gone wrong. People who force you to take a dog early are the ones that generally will never take a call from you afterward. There is much more to it than a pup being able to eat food and drink water. I hope you end up with a pup that is happy, healthy, and brings you many MANY years of happiness!

Bindi isn't home yet, he's 9 weeks and under a pound. I think he's too small too travel and don't want to risk his health. I told my breeder that I would wait until he's about 12 to 13 weeks - he should gain more weight by then. I'm not going to rush it, even though I want him NOW, his health is more important to me.

i let mine go at 8 weeks. they were on puppy food since 4 weeks, in good health, and the vet advised me to let them go at 8 weeks so that the new family could start training. also, muffie wanted them gone. she was not nice to them at all. always growling at them when they got near her and snipping at them so i also felt 8 weeks was a good time to let them go. both of my yorkies, i got at 8 weeks with no problems. i think if it is on the smaller size, maybe they should stay longer but mine are standard 7 lbs as an adult.

Threatening to resell a puppy that you had already placed a sizable deposit on was WRONG and Fishy in itself. I would never do anything like that to one of my clients. I am glad that things worked out for you and Cowboy.

We are getting our little girl tuesday, when she is just over 6 weeks old. The mom stopped nursing at 4 weeks and doesn't want anything to do with the pups, and they have been eating really well and going along great. Our vet told us that 6 weeks is ok, 8 weeks is ok, but 7 weeks is a bad idea because of the whole fear thing. We trust her very much, by the way.

I know a lot of breeders that know their stuff say 12 weeks + to let a yorkie go, but I know a woman that trains puppies and she says that at 12 weeks, that is much too late to send them to their new home. She knows her stuff, so I listen to her, but I'm sure the opinion differs.
