| Is 7 weeks too young to come home? I just found out that the little boy I am getting today is just 7 weeks. The breeder says he is eating great. Is that too young? |

| Wow that is pretty young. Any pup younger than 8 wks is even illegal in some states. How much does he weigh? I got mine at 8 wks old and he only weighed 1.2 lbs. It was pretty stressful for me and the pup. Most breeders like to keep them until they are 12 weeks old. So much of their social skills are learned from the mom and their litter mates during this period. |

| Yeah, it is young. See if you could convince the breeder to let her stay with the mother longer. |

| O yea....Thats way to young...Your not supost to bring a yorkie until they are at least 12 wks old...I won't even want to buy from a breeder who is giving away a puppy at 7 weeks...That would turn me away in a heart beat!!! |

| In one word YES unless this dog is a Lab or some other large dog, but a yorkie , you may be looking at a lot of vet bills if you take it at this age. Just the stress of being taken away from it mom and siblings can be enough to make this puppy very sick. If this breeder is in such a hurry to sell these puppies I would question her reason and look else where. Red flags are up big time. Debbie Ray www.sumtoiyorkies.com |

| I got Chachi at 6 weeks. You just have to be careful. Chachi became stressed and got diahrea. It is much better to get them about 10-12 weeks

| Way too young for a small breed puppy. With the smaller Yorkies, they should be about 12 weeks old to leave. Good Luck, Teri

| I got Luna at 9 weeks. Still too young, I think She was so very sick, vomiting, not eating, went hypoglycemic on us in the middle of the night, $730 emergency vet bill!!!!! She's now just about 12 weeks and still isn't eating right and has poor manners, so I have to teach her how to play nicely. The usual methods I used with Starr in getting her to stop biting so hard during play aren't working (saying OW really loud or yelping). She bites even harder. I know you're excited to get your baby, but is there any way that it can stay longer? I'd hate to see you go through all the bad things that we are dealing with. Good luck, either way Tracy and Luna |

Please, Please, Please read the following thread about my experience with bringing Adie home at 7 weeks. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...&highlight=Lou I DON'T want to see another Yorkie Talk member go through what I went through. And I don't want another little one to suffer the way my baby did. On top of that, Adie cost me over $2500.00 in medical bills, primarily because the breeder and I both thought that with all of my rescue work and working with special needs dogs, I could handle it! The money isn't the issue though. That puppy you want needs to be eating food on its own and developed enough to survive without it's litter mates. If the breeder won't hold your puppy till she is 12 weeks old then PLEASE find another breeder and advise this breeder that she is asking for trouble. Good Luck and let us know how it turns out! We Care. Lou | |

| Everyone seems to agree that this little boy is too young. Fine, he might be eating great on his own but the extra time with his mom and littermates is essential to getting a great dog. He will learn proper dog behavior from them, such as not biting too hard and all kinds of things. He'll be a better pet for you and probably won't suffer from separation anxiety when you have to leave him on his own. An older puppy is more receptive to learning. At this point, their mother is not cleaning up after them and they are more work for the breeder but she really should keep him a few more weeks. Debbie was 10 weeks old when I brought her home and even though she is still little at three pounds, never had any eating problems. She is not destructive and is a great little girl. I know you can't wait to bring him home but please hang in a little longer. You'll be glad you did. |
