![]() I recently read the difference between a parti and a biewer. Biewers are bred to have the three colors on their face and it's supposed to be symetrical and I believe white on the stomach and legs. Other than I'm not sure. I know YorkiRini on here has biewers, she'd be a good person to talk to. They're all beautiful.

![]() I have a parti-color yorkie and she is only two colors, white and gold. Biewer are a "special" offshoot of the traditoinal yorkshire terrier and are tri-colored. You can read the history of the yorkshire terrier to doscover that the breed was originally formed by the cross breeding of lots of different terriers. (This is why I find it ironic when some people complain about breeders who breed different breeds and get "mixes". This is exactly how yorkies were made.) Yorkies have maltese in them as well to acheive the small size since most terriers were bigger in the 1800s when this breed was being formulated. It happended in the town of Yorkshire, England and they were developed as "working dogs" to kill vermin or mice and rats to be specific. Because of all these different terriers and the maltese in the gene pool, yorkies carried these recessive genes and occasionally colors other than the breed standard tan and black would show up in a litter. The old practice was to kill these puppies due to the color "fault". In the 1980s a breeder in Germany by the name of Biewer had these unusually colored puppies born to traditional colored dogs and decided to continue to breed "for" the tri color. They deveoloped a new breed which is called the Biewer Yorkshire Terrier. It is not recognized by the AKC but their are several registries that do recognize them. The breed statndard for a german biewer is an undocked tail whereas the American Biewer Assiciation allows a docked tail I believe. Anyway, when we see unusually colored yorkies, I love it! I love the fact that they are NOT the breed standard and that breeders now appreciate the beauty and worth of these creatures and no longer "cull" them. There is no evidence that these off colored yorkies have any more health issues than the typical tan and black although you commonly hear that argument for killing them or suggesting that people not buy them. A lot of people like unique and unusual. I love my Princess Chai and she is beautiful and healthy! I hope to own a Biewer someday as I think they are gorgeous as well!

![]() Wow this is the first time I have ever seen them. I was talking to a yorkiebreeder a while ago who said she wanted a german yorkie but I had no idea what she was talking about know I know. I think they are very pretty but I like the true color of a yorkie thats just 1 of the things that make them so cute! Remember I did say just 1 ![]()

![]() Parti is a pattern not a color. It should make a dog appear spotted. It works on the base color of the dog. The Yorkie is a Tan dog with a black saddle so the parti gene should white out "spots". I would guess you could get any combination of the colors involved. I am curious how the graying gene works on them or if it does. I am not that great with color genes so this is a pretty simple example of an explanation. LOL Maybe our parti/brewier breeders will explain it better. I would love to know the combos. The brewier has a standard they want for their colors I believe, the AKC parti does not.

When a USA Yorkie is bred to a Biewer, there is always a chance that they get will not be Biewer standard for the color-specific areas of the coat. I don't know that there would be such a risk of that happening if you breed a US parti that has a long pedigree that is all parti colors. I am sure there are other differences but that is what comes to mind. I have both-Biewer females and 1 male and a USA born parti male that has the exact coloring and pattern that is included in the Biewer standard. However, there are 2 standards for Biewers. I would be more than happy to send someone pics of my parti boy and Biewers but I have not mastered the technique for posting pics myself. Sometimes, I accidently do it..LOL | |
