What's with my breeder? We've been thinking about getting Emma a sister a lot lately!!! I've been in touch with the breeder we got her from over the past couple of months, and she has been great about keeping me up to date about when she thought she'd have another litter of puppies. We were really excited because it would be the same parents, and we love our baby's sweet personality and the way she looks. Our breeder didn't know her dog was in heat, and found her female tied with a misc. terrier mix-Oops! (they live in a rural area-he was visiting!) She took the female to visit the stud she usually uses, and bred her again, hoping to get pure Yorkies. The puppies were born earlier this week!!! She had two girls and a boy-we want another little girl! I'm really excited, but I have some weird feelings about it: -She says they're pure Yorkies...but I'm a little skeptical-shouldn't they be DNA'ed first to confirm??? -What happens if we later find out the puppy is NOT actually Yorkie, but a mix? Is there anything we can do? -She's selling them for $200 and $300 more than we paid for Emma. They should be the same size (5 pounds). Aren't there usually better prices for repeat buyers? -She says the pups will be ready to go at 7-8 weeks! Isn't that too early? We brought Emma home between 8-9 weeks, and wished we'd waited until she was 11-12 weeks. We had lots of problems trying to potty train, let alone SLEEP those first few weeks, but after 11 weeks or so, she was MUCH better... -I asked her if we could put a deposit on one, or even pay in full, and have her keep it with the mother until at least 10 weeks-she said no! She wants them to go by 8 weeks. Is that illegal? I thought I read something about that on here... -Also, she said that they don't need to stay with the mother after they're weaned and that they're weaned at 5 weeks. She said she does let them stay with the mother at night, but they don't nurse. I remember that Emma was still trying to nurse when we picked her up at 8-9 weeks-is that normal? The mommy dog didn't really let her, and she was eating kibble at that point-but 5 weeks seems early to be weaned. -She insists they need to go younger so that they'll be "easier to train", and they'll be ready just before Christmas. I'd rather wait until January, due to work schedules, and we're trying to buy a house in the beginning of the year, so we'd want to know exactly what our plans are before bringing the new puppy home. I just don't understand why all of the sudden she's charging more, and wants the pups to go so early. Any ideas? Does this sound fishy to anyone else? Any advice? Thanks so much in advance! You all are usually so helpful, I appreciate it!

i m no expert and dont have many answers and i have never bred small breeds but i remeber when we bred shelties which arent real big that at 5 weeks was normal to wean, and i think that some small breeds should stay w/ the parents until maybe 10-12weeks but the legal age that i know of to sell them is 8 weeks nothing under 8 weeks. because from 5-8 weeks is when the momma dog does socialization w/ her puppies. and yes i would be leary about the oops that happened and it doesnt make a lot of sense that she is charging more, because she already know that an accident occured and you can breed a yorkie w/ a poodle for example and then another yorkies and you could get yorkies and yorkie-poos. and most breeders that have repeat customers to offer discounts mine did, but i purchased mixed breeds from the same line . the first time i bought from here was 250.00 in 2002 for yorkie-pom and in 2005 i came back and that same line was $500.00 and i got 100.00 off..

If the female tied with the mixed breed, that means she was ready and is VERY likely to have produced pups to him. You should not buy from this litter if you are paying full price. A breeder doesn't have to give a discount to repeat buyers, that is just by choice. In PA a pup isn't, by law, allowed to leave until it is 8 weeks old. Honestly, I would highly suggest that you do not buy from her at this time. Don't fight your gut instinct on this one....I believe you'll regret it in more ways than one

Oh goodness hun, dont go with this breeder. Im glad you love your first yorkie, but I certainly think you should go elsewhere. THis is what happens to purebred lines. People who have litters who are irresponsible like this, its very possible there is a mix in the litter and they may look very yorkie. The puppies pass thru the cracks and not until along time later is it determined the pups are not what the paper says. Innocent people who had nothing to do with such poor practices pay in the end. Its not about the price of the yorkie but its about just about every other concern you mentioned. She shouldnt even be breeding dogs at all if this is how she does things. This is why long time reputable breeders go crazy about these things. They work and try so hard to do a good job for buyers, puppies and lines and then you have someone like this out there being a fool. Im sure you can find a wonderful lil yorkie with all the things you like about your current precious yorkie girl, but find them with someone who cares and doesnt practice that way.

I agree with every one else. DONT go with the breeder!! I got my bunny and bella from the same breeder and I got a better price when I got my Bella. She nocked off 200.00 scent I got my Bunny from her the 1st time. also my breeder let the mommy dog do all the work and wean the pups and etc.. I would go with a different breeder but if you WANT a blood sis for your furbaby.. I would say ask her to do a DNA test 1st or just waite for the next littler.. No matter what we say, it your chose on if you want to go with the breeder or not.. Good Luck In What Ever You Do!!! Olivia Bunny & Bella

Suzy - You have so many problems and questions regarding getting a puppy from this litter -- why don't you just skip it? You're not sure about the quality of the puppy - want to take an older puppy home - and you're planning to move, etc. Sounds like there's a lot there that you aren't real happy about - or at least are concerned about...... Plus she doesn't sound like a very responsible breeder to me in the first place. As far as the price she wants - I think that is very very very inexpensive for a Yorkie - and, if they are nice little purebreds, I certainly wouldn't expect her to drop her price any further. I wouldn't hesitate getting a nice little puppy from another person - there's no guarantee that a second pup from the same parents will be similar in temperment, size, etc. And - you could get as nice a little pup from another set of Yorkies -----but I think you'll be hard put to find any others selling for the same low price. Good luck! Carol Jean

I agree with everyone on this. If it looks like a duck................. \You didn't say, is she planning to register these puppies without DNA. That would not be right at all. Stear clear of this litter, unless you like ducks.

Update Just wanted to give you all an update: My husband and I have decided NOT to purchase another puppy from this breeder. We feel that she is unethical, and is scheming to get "rid" of this multi-sired litter as yorkies before they show any signs of the mixed breed. We consider ourselves lucky to have our little girl, Emma, and love her to pieces, but due to the unfortunate circumstances with her breeder, will not be getting her a blood sister. We will continue to look for a possible "sister" for her in the next 2-6 months through another breeder. I have a comment in to AKC regarding this, and will follow up with them to make sure they take action against this breeder. I did find out that it's only $2 a puppy, plus the normal litter fees to have the litter DNA'ed, and $20 for each parent. Seems like a very small amount to find out, and I can't believe the breeder is bypassing this step. It IS much more expensive to register a multi-sired litter, but I feel she is more than making up for that anyway with her raised prices. I will keep you all posted on what if any action is taken, and what answers they give me.

| The Studs Owner The stud's owner should be informed as well incase they are expecting a puppy back from the litter as the stud fee. It sounds like she may be trying to pull one on all involved. Teri
