| both my babies wear collars. Starsky has worn his since he was little. Shylah wears hers because it has bell on it and it tells me where she is all the time. If it stops ringing, I check on her and see what she is up to.

| I use thick/hard leather collars, I used to have all their ID. Tags on them but it made too much noise when I walked them and it used to Alert all the dogs in the Neighborhood when we did our evening walks. At one time I used a soft suede harness on Artie, but it made him pull me like a dog sled and with Summertime we were infested with fleas so he scratched all his hair off right where the harness was. I also tried a real loose show lead that was situated around his ears but that felt too uncomfortable! When we are @ Home though they are both "Naked" with nothing on @ all. They are both Trained to walk off leash and if they are outside they never leave my side/sight if we are in our backyard or next door @ the Dog Park they are Trained to "Go Home" and I even went one step further by teaching them to go to a couple of Neighbors houses, just in case? But I really don't worry b/c they are both micro-chipped too! |

| Mine all wear collars that are on at all times. We do have a fenced yard and they are never out alone. |

| My Megan always wore her harness, except for the days when she got her bath. I got a kitten harness for Gina(only one small enough for her), 9 weeks on Sunday, so she can get used to wearing one. I never let Megan outside alone, and she always felt "naked" without her harness. Her tags were on the harness, and she liked to make them make noise every now and then, otherwise she was as quiet as could be. I'm getting Gina micro-chipped soon, but she will still wear the harness with her tags. I just feel better that way. Cheers Quad |

| Harness seem like they can be very uncomfortable being left on all the time and I have seen them cause a rash and hair loss by being left on all the time. Callie always has her collar on but I make sure it is lose enough where if she got stuck on something she could slide her head out. I have heard way to many stories of dogs getting out and not having collars with tags on that it is not worth the risk for me. Side note I do not hook her collar to the leash ever.

| YT 500 Club Member | If we are on vacation mine wear collars with their name and my phone number embroidered on them. I am always nervous about them getting out when we are not in our usual surroundings. Even with the collars I still use harnesses to walk them.

| I'm bad, I don't have anything on Joel when were home. Only for walks or if we're camping. I'm trying to get in the habbit of leaving his collar on for his tags if he ever gets out the door. |

| Winston wears nothing at home, his collar has his tags, so when out and about it is on, along with harness and leash.

| Oscar loves wearing his collar all the time. I keep it pretty loose so if he was to get caught on something he could pull his head out. It only comes off for baths, and even then he tries to grab it from me. Like he's saying mom don't take that off Im nekked. He wears his collar and a harness when we go for walks. Collar for id tags and harness for leash.

| YT 1000 Club Member | I have Collars with full ID on my guys 24/7, which are never used for restraining them. I use Harness' for that, and that's every time they are allowed outside the "safe" area. Even though I have an environment which has layers of protection, there's always a chance of escape/accidental release, and I can't allow them to not have that information on them full time. (ok, call it paranoia )Given the monetary value and popularity of the Yorkshire, getting one returned after a loss is questionable. I just to make sure that I've done everything I can, to provide someone with the option to be honest.

| I know this is an old thread but I'm glad it was revived. Good topic. After what happened to Benji last year (getting lost while IN a hotel room and IN a closed bathroom), I think wearing a collar with tags all the time is so important. Microchipping is important, too, but Benji wasn't - and he was found and his owner was contacted because he had a collar with tags on. I'm still getting Mandie used to this idea. Breakaway is the way to go with collars. Hands-down.

| I use an embroidered nylon collar with name and phone number on it. Bella destroyed her tags by chewing on them, so I just keep her rabies tags in the drawer. I will have Bella microchipped when she goes in for her spay. I keep her collar on 24/7 and she hasn't had any problems catching the collar in her mouth since she grew into it properly. (Her neck is so small that she uses an extra-small collar shortened as much as possible.) I walk her using a harness, but I don't put the harness on her except to take her for walks. BTW, this thread was started in 2006. Last edited by pstinard; 07-07-2013 at 08:44 AM. |
