| Fire Alarm This just happened an hour ago. I'm on the PC in yorkie talk when all of a sudden, all the smoke alarms are going off. Misha & Piper jump up start barking. It's killing my ears, theirs must be awful. I'm calling my husband at work trying to find out how to disconnect them. I finally gave up because they are hooked into the alarm system. So I dial 911, tell them I don't smell smoke but everything was going off & I could barely here. Fire dept on the way. Now the alarm security is calling wanting to know passwords ect. My babies are going crazy, trying to get them out doors away from the noise. I'm trying to give passwords hang on to the girls & the fire dept shows up. Now Misha is going crazy with strangers in the house. Everything turned out all right. Turned out to be a faulty smoke alarm that's only 3 years old, but I need a plan next time. I didn't have their leashes buy the door. Couldn't find them. I Had to hold to squirmy barking girls. The fireman showed me how to disconnect them, for future reference. I didn't even know we had one in the attic, but I sure could hear it. I just felt so helpless, Misha & Piper looking at me with their big eyes saying, Mommy hurry & turn it off, it hurts our ears. |

| Awww... You make a good point. We all should have a plan for our yorkies in the event of a real emergency.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | It must have been scary. The only plan we have is my dtr is to grab Cali and I will grab Maya. My big fear is that they will hide under my bed and I won't be able to get them out.

| Aww, I woke up the other morning with that. All I remember was one action of waking up jumping out of bed catching stump in my arms and going into the hallway, my mom had taken a really hot shower, and all the steam set the smoke alarm off. But the closet I come to having a plan is, we bought this little thing for the front window that says Rescue 1 small Yorkie. We bought them at PetSmart for if your not home and the house caught on fire they would know to rescue your pups. |

| My husbands a fireman and hes told me that theyb are trained not to go after animals as the risk of a fireman losing their life over a dog isnt worth it. He also says that animals will be the first to escape if they smell fire. Saying all that if we ever had a fire Id be the first to get my Yorkies in my arms and get them out straight away,no messing. Id be like a packhorse with the kids and dogs!!! You never know when there could be a fire, the stories Ive heard are shocking so always be prepared. |

| I'm glad everything turned out OK. My ears hurt just thinking about what you went thru. And shopstump, Bless your BF. What a big heart he has. I had always wanted to be a vet. Then one day someone told me I might have to put an animal to sleep. End of that career choice. I couldn't do it. I have the upmost respect for firemen. I worked with several retired NYC firefighters when in SC, and the stories were unbeliefable. They will never get the total respect they deserve. And I guess I better start getting an escape plan around. Cats, birds, fish, dog and sleeps-in-a-coma dtr to worry about. |

| I just hate when that happens!! I had that happen last fall and we couldn't figure out how to turn them off . Turns out that its not that simple because of the security system. I too ended up replacing them all because we couldn't figure out which one it was. Sorry you had to go through that. I know how it feels. The girls hated all the noise!! |

| Sounds like you had an un-nerving experience!! My biggest fear is a fire while either I'm not home & Snickers is baby-gated in my bedroom or in his crate. Obviously, our babies can't escape in these two situations. About the only time I ever (don't tell anyone) set my alarm is when I leave the house with Snickers at home & it is always because of the thought of fire. If he's with me, I don't bother with the alarm. Now, I'm not comforted to know that fireman are trained to not save animals. I will admitt though, I wouldn't want someone to loose a husband or father. I do treat my dog like a human......but the guilt would be terrible. |

| Shopstump --- If your boyfriend is going to be a fireman - he'll learn the rules, and I'm sure he'll act appropriately. I know a lot of firefighters who are animal lovers will always make an extra effort - but they certainly learn not to put their own lives or other lives in jeopardy doing this. Most of the time, both pets and people can be gotten out of fire situations. And, and most of the time, they are out - before the firemen even get there. The other times - the firemen do whatever they can and are trained to do. We certainly never want to lose a fireman or any other life because someone is trying to save a pet.... Carol Jean |
