| Gosh I'm getting SO ANNOYED!!!! Gosh some people just don't understand anything.... Basically some guy (in love with his car) was dissing on small dogs on this one site... He said, "Did you hear awhile back about the cop in Cali that was attacked and severely injured by a pack of chi's? And all the while, people are bashing on the bully breeds. If you look at statistics of owner interviews, toy dogs attack far more than any pit" And so I said, "please don't give me crap about pitbills and small dogs. What statistics are you talking about? That is untrue, sorry. Yes small dogs do tend to bite, but does it seriously EVER hurt anyone? Pitbulls kill so many little dogs that is why they get a bad repuatation. Has a Yorkie or Chihuahua or any other small dog KILLED anyone? No..." THEN he said, "Treat your dog like a dog, and you will get all the respect in the world from me. Its not a little human, its not a baby dressed in a fur suit and its certainly not your child. Dogs are dogs, they aren't meant to pee in litter boxes and wear raincoats and boots. I haven't met a normal toy dog that wasn't treated like a fashion accessory. If i wasn't about to go to bed, I would dig around and find the statistics for you. Big dogs do more damage, duh, and often require stitches or medical care, hence the reporting to the authorities. Any time ANYONE goes to a doctor for an animal bite, it has to be reported. But, this statistic is just general dog bites, not severity, and overwelmingly, its toy dogs. They don't do as much damage but are far nastier than any big breed. A yorkie is certainly not going to do as much damage as a pit, just based on bite circumference and power alone. Now granted, these are overwelmingly owner reported bites from an interview. I think the sample size of the study was around 5000 people from all over the United States, with many different types of dogs. Toys were the number one breed to bite, although not severely." So then I finally said, "Umm...treat my dog like a dog? I will treat her anyway I want thanks!! Who cares if I dress her up? I usually only dress her up when it is cold. I don't let her wear boots..etc.. but what is wrong with that? If someone want to do that then.. so be it. Who are you to say how a dog is suppose to be treated like? Fine then, treat your car like a car.. stop adding stuff to it for no reason! Treat yourself like how you were created.. go run around naked then! They weren't meant to pee in litter boxes? (mines pee outside btw), well then humans weren't meant to pee in toilets...?? Your logic makes no sense at all." I know this shouldn't get to me but seriously that guy is so annoying~! |

| small dogs may bite more because they are smaller but they won't kill someone like a bigger dog can! some people were raised different to think animals /pets are just animals/pets there's no reasoning with them they are just different. |

| He does sound like a real jerk as far as bashing toy breeds as 'fashion accessories" and garbage like that. Now, I don't know stats either but I do have to agree that toy dogs are more likely to show and act out with aggression than dogs like pits. Don't know why but they do. Little dogs tend to act out because they often times aren't socialized correctly. I love my Harley but I do realize that he can get nasty and that he can bite. And he has in the past but because his little mouth is so weenie and his muscles aren't very strong his bites are concieved as harmelss and sometimes people even find them funny and laugh them off. And it is because of this that owners are less likely to properly correct thier little ones because their aggression is often times viewed as cute or funny. I am the first to admit that my little dog used to get away with more (bad behavior) than any of my other dogs. Because he is small and it's hard to know how to properly correct his bad behavior. This is usually why little dog owners tend to let a lot of their dogs poor behavior slide by. But if one of my big dogs bit or faught someone or another dog it could mean their death because they are bigger and therefore have the ability to do more damage. Yes, pitbull attacks are more publicized and more commonly reported to police. Because who is going to try and press charges for a chi or pom pom attack? All dogs have the same mental and emotional capabilities to be aggressive, teritorial, possessive, pushy and snappy but not all have the same physical capabilities to fullfill their instincts. I hope I don't get my head ripped off for this one but I had to say what I feel. I have known dozens of pitbulls and large breeds in my life and none of them have had aggression problems and that's because they have been properly socialized, have had set boundaries and good consistant training. Remember, pit fighting is a huge problem in the US and especially in my county. Pits are raised to be this way for fighting or as their owners 'bully accessories'. People are cruel, not dogs. You always have to remember to sit back and realize that you must judge the deed, not the breed because that aggression started somewhere.. The owner.

| As far as the dressing them up and treating them like babies, I don't feel that has anything to do with agression. But I do believe that the small breed owners tend not to socialize their dogs properly and train them proberly because they are small and cute and no one takes them seriously. So therefore they do bite more and jump on people more and make a nusiance of themselves in general. When your dog is doing something, ask yourself if this would be acceptable if it were a large breed behaving the same way. It is the owners responsibility to FIRST treat them like dogs, and then spoil them all you want. |

| I think little dogs can be more defensive just because they ARE little. How would you feel if EVERYONE you met could just pick you up and breath all over your face???? Try doing that to a pitbull. I'd be a little defensive too. BTW...Catrina, you thought quickly and had some good responses for that annoying poster...spend more time at YT, we all thing small dogs rock!

| I agree with Harley's mom. Small dogs do tend to have more behavior issues because their owners overlook certain things that would not be acceptable in a large breed. I say this because I myself am guilty of this. Nikko likes to jump on people's laps and lick their faces. He can be a bit pushy with this. Since he is a 6 pound ball of furry cuteness, most people don't mind. Now if he was an 80 pound lab, I don't think this would be so funny.
