Donating YT 14K Club Member | I dock because that's what the standard calls for (by the YTCA and AKC). Until a law passes that states it can no longer be done, I will continue.

| Tails are best for definite, Buddy holds his slightly to one side and it all falls to the side like a fan its way cute. Nearly all the yorkies i see where we live have their tails its mainly the older ones that are docked. The yorkie is a beautiful breed of dog and should be left as intended....with a tail! some of the 'breed standards' need dragging into this century. ohh yes btw.... whoever said 'they don't care what England wants to or not do with their dogs' ......have a quick look into the history of the breed and where it originated.

| ok i dont think docking should be done and i never had my 2 pups tails docked and my reasons for NOT having it done where it will hurt them, its not needed for health reasons,im not showing them. so i had reasons NOT to dock my boys can someone on here give me a reason why they had there yorkies tail docked? im not talking about people who got the pup and it was done b4 they got it im talking about people who asked for the tail to be docked or breeders who have it done can you give a good reason why?

| Both of mine are Docked! Both my male & female have docked tails, my male Artie's is about 2 inches, w/c I think is perfect, but my females is only an inch w/c I think is too short. They were both done by Vets./Breeders and are following the AKC. Standard w/c I also agree with......along with a Full coat. Both are also on the large side being 9 pounds not the less than 6 pound range that everyone likes? So I guess I'm just weird? |

I've seen tails docked. Many times. The pups flinch and they're over it. There is little, if any, blood...droplets maybe. (Povided it is done correctly.) If the pups were writhing in pain, spurting blood everywhere, I might feel otherwise, but they don't. There have been studies upon studies done as to why docking is best done at a certain age. The pain/sensation the pups feel is minimal. Period. "It causes great pain" cannot be used as a valid argument, because that is NOT TRUE. Am I a dog? Do I feel it? Can they tell me it doesn't hurt? No, but facts are facts and they've all been presented, like it or not. At least, that is MY take on it. I respect everyone's opinion and am relieved that at least up til this point, people have been expressing their feelings in a mostly respectful manner. One point I find interesting that I have noticed in THIS thread, those of you who do feel so adamately against the practice, live in a country where docking is illegal. I'm wondering if your passion against it is based on the fact that your country (obviously) views the practice differently from ours as a whole. Hmmm...kind of like, you are what society makes you? Don't know how to put it in words... We take the our views because that is what we've always known...? | |

| Well ditto, you think its ok as your country says so! No my opinion is my own, if I lived in a different country I would still have the same opinion! Just out of interest, how many of the breeders dogs out there have actualy been bought to be show dogs, then actually gone on to make it to the level where their tale is a factor? Or have they just gone as pets who are loved very much, and would have been loved just the same with their tales intact? |
