If you are listening only to me, your sponge won't need to be an extra large ! I thought EVERY dog was to have the dew claws removed until someone on here corrected me....then I knew differently. The pup in my avatar is my Little Red Mercedes....born (total surprise) in a litter of mine along with another color anomally and 2 standard pups. Some call them red, blond or golden. They have no black or silver hair and never will. They got an overload of the red gene (recessive bb gene). PERFECTLY healthy and normal. If you use the search engine for "mercedes" or "maverick" you will find many pictures of them starting at 10 hours old. They have been such a joy and a blessing and are now over a year old. I'd attach pictures, but I don't want to hog a thread. Last edited by Julz; 08-13-2006 at 11:47 AM.

| I think Yorkies look cute with their tails. I wouldn't have minded if Nikko had his tail, as I live in the city and hardly think he would injure his tail lounging around on the couch and walking around the block. Unfortunately, I was not given the choice when I got him, his tail was already docked. I think more breeders should give their prospective customers the choice. They may be surprised at how many people opt to keep the tails on.

I agree that breeders should give people the choice, although docking is done at such an early age, most arnt for sale for the new owner to know anything about it. Tail or not, they still Yorkies!!!

Exactly! I would not and could not (illegal here) dock the pups I have right now although one was sold before it was born and when I took Meg for her check up at the vets the day after she had them a woman was in there and fell in love immediatly with one so gave me a deposit there and then. That was only by chance it happened. Otherwise by the time people know yorkies are for sale its too late anyway. Oh well! Do you like long or short?

All our have docked tails and I love them all. I have never seen (personally) an adult Yorkie w/ an intact tail to say I would prefer one to the other. Until either 1) it is made illegal here, which I don't see happening or 2) breed standards are changed to include a full tail, I will continue to follow standards and have the tails of our litters docked. If I did have someone contact me in advance and request that the tail be left, I would gladly honor their request so long as they are willing to put a deposit down.

Paddy's Mum~ Just out of curiosity, I know that docking is illegal where you are. Is it legal to have a baby's ears pierced? Just wondering...
