| Just for curiousity, could someone who knows how to do it, start a poll of how much we paid for our Yorkies? I'm wondering if prices are perhaps higher in some areas than others. I do agree that a Yorkie is a luxury, not a necessity, and if we don't want to pay the prices, we don't have to. The costs we pay in maintaining them far outweigh the initial purchase price . |

| I'm just going to throw my two cents in here.... I don't think the breeders should have to justify why they price their dogs the way they do. They know what their expenses are and how much time and effort they've put into it. It's the breeder's dog - they have a right to price it the way they want. I paid quite a bit for Pixie and had no problem doing it. I could afford it, she was what I was looking for, so I went ahead with it. If I thought she was overpriced or wasn't good quality I'd move on, simple as that. I'm not going to criticize or argue with the breeder, they feel justified for charging what they do and my ridicule isn't going to change that... But, there are the people that are charging too much for a dog of questionable health/lineage, but it's up to the consumer to do their research. If they end up getting ripped off by a bad breeder sometimes the consumer is partly to blame. Should've researched the breed and had some idea of what to look for! Anyway, I have no problem paying a higher price for something (anything, this doesn't only apply to Yorkies) that's of good quality and has someone standing behind it 100%.... And if you don't like the price, go somewhere else!! No sense arguing about it. |

| A well bred example of the breed standard average price is $2000 living to the average age of 15 which averages $133.00 a year of all the fun, pleasure and yorkie kisses!!! I call that PRICELESS!!

| I just hate to see a post turn into such a heated debate....especially when everyone is just voice their opinions...which, we all have different views and opinions, that is what makes the USA such a great place to live. I didn't mean to cause a ruckus about the price breeders charge (course, I know how some people are when you bring up a subject they think they know all about)......after all, all I said was "maybe she was talking about the prices going to the extremes". My family raised labs all through my life at home and I know all about blood testing, lineage, etc. We even did all sorts of training on most of the puppies before they went to a new home.....and we still did NOT charge these outrageous prices you see now. And we know, and the people buying the dogs knew what a high quality pet they were getting, the long line of family history, awards, etc. So, I can't really see that as an excuse. - yes, it is a big part of it, but still......... I don't know what the lady meant, but I can bet she was complaining about prices being so high on the animals. I do think it is up to the breeder to decide on the prices for their animals and yes, you don't have to pay for it. BUT I have seen high quality AKC approved, long lineage pets sold for less than $1000 and they looked better and showed better than some that were prices more! - You just never know. Yes, I pay for high quality stuff (no matter what it is) - that is because I can and I am able and willing to. No one forced me to shell out what I did for my Yukon that is fully loaded and the cream of the crop! Did I hate paying that much....sure, I'm sure I did, but that is what I wanted.

| Ok, I get your piont. only people that can afford a dog at high cost can give it love and care. HOGGGGGGGG WASHHHHH!!!!!!!!!. i take very good care of my dogs medical and love. and once a person pays for a dog it is none of my buiness how they take care of it. I hope and pray that they will take care of them. So if you think i am a back yard breeder so be it. i think maybe we have some not so honest people that are out to make a profit selling there dogs and do not want to admitted it. so be it, it is there right to justify why they sell dogs at $1000.00 $$$$$$. and i know there dogs are no finer or healther than mine. at $600.00

Especially when this argument had faded...why start it up again? It is not a comforting thought to know that you preach the care and corectness with which you would conduct yourself as a breeder, and then seemingly dismiss any concern for the health and well being of the pup after it's placed. So long as you get the money for it, is that the story? | |

| I paid $2000 for my yorkie..and he is very cute, came from Champion stock, am I showing him NO! I could have gotten a much cheaper, yet not the look I wanted. I've seen Yorkies w/o the "look" I was going for and I would've been embarrassed to say one of those were my dog...

A proper breeding pair should be as close to the breed standard as possible... not down eared, not modified coat, not over standard weight, not over sized ears, not over sized muzzle, not long narrow muzzle, not long legged or long bodied not over or undershot bite, not roached back, not down tailed. There are too many breeders out their that take no thought in a breeding pair, throw two dogs together and 63 days later have pups, more often than not these off spring do not come even close to the standard. Here lies the vicious circle. Here lies the price difference. Here lies the same old adage I posted before "You get what you pay for"
