| Anyone have any remedies for dehydration? Some of you might know that I have a baby with congestive heart failure, he is taking Lasix on a daily basis. I make all my babies take a vitamin tablet every morning....and about 2 - 3 times a week , I add half pediatric electrolyte solution to their water. Thinking this might help with a loss of potassium in my little one. The other 2 don't care for it, but too bad, I don't think it will hurt them . I am just trying to cover all the aspects of my tiny one loosing too much potassium while taking this lasix........poor thing just peeps so many times a day. I keep a close eye on him and his liquid comsumption, as well I should. Anyway, if anyone has any experience with dehydration issues , I would greatly appreciate your input. Thanks so much! |

| Rebound it comes in chicken or beef flavor, suppose to work wonders. http://www.vetmeddirect.com/i_009NPS...n-32-ounce.php

| Well, as far as dehydration, that is exactly what the vet is trying to accomplish with the Lasix. The whole idea is to get rid of the excess fluid. As far as potassium loss, check with your doc. He can be given potassium supplements if necessary. I'd also check with your doc about giving electrolyte solutions and Rebound as both contain sodium (which increases fluid retention - not what someone with congestive heart failure needs).

| found this maybe it will help Another helpful group of drugs for dogs in heart failure are diuretics. These drugs remove accumulation of fluids that occur in the lungs and abdomen of cardiac patients due to the sluggish flow of blood. The most common and best drug of this class is furosemide (Lasix). The dose of furosemide is 1-3mg/pound of body weight given two or three times a day. Dogs taking furosemide usually drink and urinate more frequently. While on this drug the dog should receive a potassium supplement such as Morton’s NuSalt.

hummmm, I thought I was doing a good job at this. Now I am scared to death again because the doc didn't even tell me about the potassium supplement. You would think he would have said something. ? Thank you again for the info , I need to talk more frankly with the vet I think, cause this is a battle for life here. Ho Hum......... | |

However, to set your mind at ease, why don't you call and ask (or make an appointment). I would definitely do that before I'd start trying to remedy it on my own!
