Rescue puppy at two weeks The little puppy that we are fostering is two weeks old. He is up to 5 1/2 ounces and holding his own. Reva is being a wonderful foster mom to him. She is taking care of him and her own puppies that were born the middle of June. Lucky as I call him has his eyes open- and seems to want to keep up with his foster brother and sisters. The big kids are on the move sitting up and making growling sounds. I can't wait until I hear that first little bark. It is like the first time my children said their first word. I have to make a decision soon on Lucky. His owner was to have sent me a check to cover his medical expenses- as of yet no check. I had explained to his owner that I was not going to pay for any medical bills for the little guy. My generosity ends when it comes to my checkbook and a puppy that belongs to someone else. I am afraid that she wants the puppy but does not want to spend the money in case he dies. I know if I pay for the vet bill and he dies I will have a hard time getting reinbursement. Due to his size I had been able to hold out in getting his tail docked but my time is running out.

What a sweet puppy! I don't know if you will be able to help me (or maybe someone here can), but I am a 47-year-old married female in Ohio looking for a Yorkie or Yorkie mix puppy to adopt at a low cost. I live on a 2 1/2 acre lot so the puppy would have plenty of room to run and play. My children are now grown, and I'm looking for one of these adorable puppies as a pet and companion, but I can't afford to pay some of the high prices I've been seeing. The dog wouldn't have to be purebred, as I'm not interested in breeding. If anyone can offer any suggestions, I would be most appreciative. I've seen so many internet scams involving these dogs that I am very leary now. I look forward to hearing from anyone who could give me advice. Please email me at Basbalubet@aol.com Thank you so much!

The puppy that I am fostering does not belong to me. I have no idea at this point what his owner has in mind for his future. If he stays here and is abandoned I will keep you in mind.

| That is really tough.. but it is nice of you to take care of Lucky. Is the owner a breeder or something? The puppy is so young.. but then if she/he is a breeder, they should be able to take care of Lucky.. hmmmmmmm. I hope Lucky is /going to be healthy.. so regardless you or the owner doesn't need to spend much money.. and also health is the most important thing anyway... whatever it takes. I wish the best for Lucky.

I say take the owner to court if she tried to skip out on her responsibilities to Lucky. But talk to a lawyer just to get advice. I am like you "My generosity ends when it comes to my checkbook and a puppy that belongs to someone else." And what is the owner doing while you are taking care of this puppy.

I'd leave the tail undocked, that is becoming more popular now, and in some countries docking is forbidden. If she doesn't pay, she doesn't get the dog back. Period. Then you can sell him fior any expenses that you have incurred for him. Keep records of every dime spent on him, and all communication with her. If you are requesting money from her, do it in writing and send it by certified mail. Before you sell the puppy, send a letter to her oulining your intentions if she does not reimburse you. Let her take you to court, then it is up to her to prove that you owed her anything.

I took this baby cause it was either take him or he would die. The owner was not prepared for the physical aspect of raising a baby by hand. She was worn out after one day of taking care of him. Needless to say no she is not a breeder. I did not ask for any money when I took the little guy. My statement was if he lives you will need to pay for the vet visit and the tail docking and any other medical expenses that I incurr as he grows. I had bottles and milk to supplement him with- so that has not cost his owner anything. I took him in for his sake and not the owner. If he does make it and goes back to her I will try and keep him until he is 3 months old. I am not sure if she would know how to or would want to take care of him. I will pass on the court situation. Got one of those going on right now with a contract and the misrepresentation on dogs that I bought. Those things can get expensive and ugly. Warning watch out for any and all contracts that breeders may require you to sign. If you buy a dog and the papers are not available get a bill of sale that states if you will be required to sign a contract and what that contract contains. Do not trust anyone- not even if they are a member of the YTCA. You can get burned. I have learned the hard way. Take any and all contracts to your attorney and have them look it over. Don't take the sellers at face value that what they say verbally is what they mean in the contract. Don't be afraid to have and ask for a contract to be re-written that makes any questionable points - very clear. I may just leave LUcky's tail undocked. It will not hurt him as being placed as a pet- if he stays here I will not have any papers for him anyway.

Lucky is 2 1/2 weeks old and weighs in at a whole 6 1/8 ounces. His eyes are open and he is moving around some. He is so tiney and petite. In response to a contract on a former post. When Lucky came I really did not have much hope that he was going to survive. I just knew that we would do the best that we could to meet the little guy's needs. It was all up to the man upstairs to give the little man the determination and will to survive. I have had my day with contracts. You can end up with more problems then they are worth. When a contract is written- if the other party intends to take advantage of you they will write the contract with just those intents. It would seem that you have to go line by line and make sure that each party has the same understanding of the words written. If it is unclear rewrite the bloody thing until it has no hidden adgendas. Sometimes you just have to take folks at face value. You will win sometimes and sometimes you will loose that is part of life. It does make you stronger for the next situation that you will be a little more careful. Old days a handshake and a verbal agreement was good enough. Our world has changed. I can say that for everyone who has tried and has taken unfair advantage of me- something good has came out of the situation in the long run. Sometimes it may not look like a blessing but you have to sit back and watch the blessings grow. Lucky was a blessing for me. Shows I still have what it takes to take care of the little ones. Gave me the opportunity to give something back to someone else. Hope that I will make a postive impact in Lucky and his owner's life. I was told that it is a ripple effect- Someone was kind to me- ( and boy were they) I return it to someone else and the chain continues. What can I say this is the kinder, gentler me.
