| Floppy ears - not all but some.... I've been looking at the thread "pictures of larger Yorkies." It's intereresting that so many of the larger yorkies have floppy ears... Not all of them - but as they get larger - there seem to be more (over 12 pounds etc.) Interesting.... Carol Jean |

| I have noticed that also. I wonder if it is because a larger yorkies ears are bigger. My Chachi is a bigger yorkie but his ears are up.

| Yeah I have noticed that too,I was told it was because their ears are bigger so therefore heavier,so they cant stand. It is interesting |

| It probably depends on the breeder and how they ended up with such large dogs. If they bred for standard and the large dog is a fluke, everything else (including ears) will probably be set more correctly. A good breeder will also shave the ears of pups to encourage the ears to stand up. If the dogs came from breeders who breed their large pet quality Yorkies with floppy ears, chances are the pups will look the same. |

| I have definately noticed that! We have Hobbs who is 3 lbs and both ears are up; Sophie who is 6 lbs with one ear up and one ear down; and KoKo who is 12 lbs and both ears down!!!!!! The bigger they get, the more their ears tend to flop down (see pic)!! |

| Loki is about 10 lbs and his ears are down. I think he is a fluke though - because he was about 3 lbs at 12 weeks and he is NOT fat - he is really long and has super long legs. Anyway, he has a VERY thick cottony coat. The breeder had taped his ears, but not shaved them. They started to stand unevenly (one half way up) so we took the tape off and let them stay down. We like them down :-)

| Both Tripp & Tucker's ears are down. I also think it has to do with just sheer size. Tucker's ears are kinda small for him but never stood up, and Tripps are kinda big for him and don't stand up. Pretty weird, but I still love 'em!

I'm just proud to say that lesson learned and, with a little bit of shaving, all of Paddy's puppies have erect ears!

| Me again - I started this thread. My pup is around 8 1/2 pounds with large ears that stand straight up. And - I know his ears weren't shaved as a pup. But it was the even larger Yorkies (more than 8 or 9 pounds) that I've notice almost always having floppy ears. Whatever! Just something I've noticed - and apparently a lot of you have too. | Bobby is almost 12 pounds and his ears are up. They came up after the groomer shaved them but now they're staying up despite having long hair. He has a longish body and that's where his weight or "bigness" comes from. Julie |
