| Any other puppies CRY ALL THE TIME? Ok, not all the time, but our puppy cries a lot. We are crate training her and she is still crying for a good part of the night after 7 nights. I put her in the crate, cover the crate, and then shut the door (she is in the laundry room). I can still hear her through the vents. Every once in a while i check on her because i want to make sure she is ok, but OMG...her crying, I have to admit, is quite annoying. So, I get up early in the am to get my daughter ready for school. As soon as she is ready, I go and get Dixie out of her cage and take her out immediately. She literally stands next to me outside and cries and cries and cries. I beg her to pee pee (I realize she doesn't understand just yet) and usually it takes 30-45 minutes, then she will finally pee. All the while, she jumps on me and cries and cries.... I totally get the 30-45 minute thing...I expected that...but I just didn't think she would cry this much! After peeing and getting a treat, she comes in and I sit on the couch. If she isn't RIGHT NEXT TO ME, she cries. When I put her next to me, she is fine. In the evening, if I go and take a shower, she won't even sit with my husband. She cries until I get out! Right now I am not paying attention to her 100% and she is crying! I had her checked out at the vet on Monday and she is 100% healthy, so I don't know what her problem is! she is precious and I love her so much, but OMG...she is driving me nuts! Do I need to just take a chill pill? Is this normal? |

| It's normal, I think. I crated Napo in the kitchen at night and he would cry and bark for HOURS. Finally, I was so afraid the neighbors would complain that I took his crate and parked it next to my bed at night. He quit crying and barking. I wish I had done this sooner. It would have saved me many sleepless nights LOL.

| It is perfectly normal for any breed of puppy to cry when crated or left alone, especially in the middle of the night. They are used to having their litter mates with them all the time. Here's what I did when I adopted Matthias - I wore a clean shirt (naturally) all day long so that it got my scent on it. Then I put it in the crate with Mattie at night, along with a stuffed animal that was wearing another one of my shirts. He was able to sleep with the stuffed animal AND have my scent with him which helped greatly. One night of crying after that is all we went through. Also when you put your baby in his crate, have a treat on hand. Say "crate" a few times as you are putting him in it (this will come in handy later when you are trying to eat dinner and he is jumping all over you - just point, say "crate" and off he'll go to his spot), pet him, and once he's inside, give him his treat (I use Pup-peroni's, original flavor, cut up in to Yorkie sized bites for training - it works GREAT), then close the door. Maybe slip one in between the bars of the crate after the door is closed while covering the crate up - all the while saying "good Crate... good Crate". After about 60 seconds, open the door and let your baby out praising him. Do this throughout the day, extending the period of time you leave the cover on. You may have to do this two or three days to really get the full training effect. These are things I have done with all of my dogs I have ever had with it working on all except for one - and it was because the people who had her before left her crated ALL DAY LONG with only potty breaks - they even had her fed in the crate. That dog we just gave up the crate training with. She was a good dog so long as she didn't have to go in a crate. Anyway, these are things I have done with Mattie and he isn't scared of his crate anymore. Please keep in mind that I'm not trying to tell you what to do or not do. I'm just telling you what worked for me. I wish you the best of luck.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I put Cali's playpen right next to my bed when I got her and she never cried. At first she would wake up around 2 in the morning and I would put her in a small carrier on the pillow next to me and she would goright back to sleep. At 5 1/2 months she came into bed with me and it's been wonderful. I really think she's scared all alone and misses you. Some puppies are more sensative and need to feel the comfort of your presence.

| Crying I got my yorkie at 8 weeks and he only cried the first 4 nights and not longer than 15 minutes each time (approx 5 times a night). I've had him 6 weeks now and he still usually barks and cries for at least 5 minutes when I first put him in but he doesn't make a peep after that until he hears my alarm clock go off in the morning. Once he hears that he barks until I come to get him. Is your puppy in a different area during the day? I used a kiddie swimming pool for the first 4 weeks so he would have more room to run around in during the day and be good and worn out for bedtime. I put his bed, toys and food on one end and the pee pad on the other. It worked great and kept him safe. When my puppy has had a very busy day he will be so tired he doesn't cry at all when crated for the night. Puppies all have different personalities just like kids and maybe your little baby just needs you more. I think the shirt idea sounds great. My breeder also suggested an old sock filled with rice and microwaved to keep him warm at night. Good luck with your new baby!!!! |

| Will it not work to cuddle them until they fall asleep, and then place them gently in their crate?? Do they ALL wake up five times a night?? (she asked, with trepidition! ) So it's BETTER to have the crate where they can see you?? I figured that would be worse! I heard that you shouldn’t take them out of their crate when they’re whining, so that you don’t reenforce whining=getting taken out of the crate! But is that true? How would you ever even TAKE them out, then, if they were whining *constantly*?? Good tips on this thread; thanks!! I’m bookmarking! |

| Parker did that at first. then someone told me to put the crate by my bed and he stopped. Now he sleeps in bed with me and hubby. He is spoiled. I didnt even let my own kids sleep in bed with us. (well if they got scared for something I did, you know what I mean). |

| I don't crate mine, believe it or not. We tried with out first one, Maxx. He cried and cried. And it made us cry and cry! After the 4th night, I took him out and put him in bed with us and he never cried again. Now we have Evey and our new baby Rocco. They all three sleep with us but that is our preference. Now Rocco, the baby, he will lay near the edge of the bed at night and cry and he is almost 9 months old now! We figured out that he could hear our girls (our human ones ) at night in the house and he wanted to be out there with them (they are 18 and 20 yrs old). We love our community bed. When we first got Maxx, my husband NO WAY! The dog is NOT sleeping with us- now here we are 6 years later and 2 more yorkies and I would not have it any other way! But, the gal who told you to wear the t-shirt and put a stuffed animal in the crate? That's a GREAT idea. The baby will smell you and be able to cuddle with something if crating is what you've decided. To each his own, I always say. Good luck!! |

in general the first few weeks of having a puppy is hard. they have bad separation anexiety and feels abandoned when they can't see you. at night, try placing his crate near your bed so that he knows you're there. in the day, try placing the crate in a high traffic area, so again, he knows you're around. all other times, ignore until he quiets down then give him attention. let him learn that whining and crying will not get attention. only good quiet puppies get attention. be patient, you'll get through it! | |

| If she is confined to the laundry area, is it necessary to keep her penned in the crate. Ollie cried so much off and on that after the first week, I took the door off the crate. She liked that better. She still protests when I put her in the laundry room, but only for a few minutes. I have have food and pee pads in there for them. During the day they are confined to the kitchen. |

| The shirt idea is a good one. I also used a hot water bottle wrapped in several pillow cases and the radio on low. However, i didn't last long either-Holly started to sleep with me after a week! How- ever, i still use her puppy pen in the day-it is in the kitchen where she can see me cooking etc and she is used to going in it when we are out.I would move the crate to your room at night.

| Uh oH........ I think you got yourself a princess. Some are just needier than others. My yorkies have all been really good..... I do have a boy... my BeeBee who cries when crated but at almost 3 years old..... he's figured out it won't do any good so now he chews on his bones.... LOL It might take some time but stick with it. I brought a cheapy camera system on Ebay for under 100 bucks and I can monitor them just to make sure they are not hurt.... cause sometimes it can sound like it... can't it? If you go check on her when she is crying.... she will know it's working. Good Luck! |

| I was lucky that Gucci didnt cry at all. She slept on her bed on the hallway which was close with baby gates until she was 5 months. After that she started sleeping in our bed and we love it. I think the idea of putting a shirt that you have wore inside the crate with your your pup is very good. Good luck. |
