| Runt of the litter... Is he healthy? Please read this! [COLOR=Navy]I bought my Miniature Yorkie,Sebastian, and my friend just adored him so he bought one from the same litter. All there was left was the runt of the litter and I swear his legs can't be a half inch long! His belly is swelled out like a balloon and his face is a lot flatter than my Yorkie, Sebastian. Little Sampson (runt) can't even scratch his nose with his back legs like most dogs can, because it won't reach! He falls getting out of his bed, which is one of the tiny dog beds. After his front legs hit the floor, he just rolls out because he is too short to get his back legs to the floor gracefully. He can barely clear the edge of the little place mat that his food dish sits on, and sometimes when he is eating, his back end comes up off the floor because he is top heavy! Is he deformed? The breeder said that he takes after his dad, who was shorter and about 3 pounds. The mom was supposedly 5 lbs and somewhat taller. Is it possible for purebred yorkies to be so different? I wonder if his legs will grow any. His little swollen belly drags the floor. He looks like a black and tan potato! Do you think he'll be O.K.? |

| Has he been to the vet? I'm not a breeder so I really don't know but the swollen belly is concerning. I hope he is OK. How old is he? |

| A potbelly could mean he's full of worms. I would take in a stool sample to a vet. My Mom's maltese also "tipped over" when eating and she grew to a healthy weight of 7 pounds. |

| Poor little thing. How old is he? Has he been to see a vet yet? Is he eating okay 'cos his swollen tummy doesn't sound too good. I don't know much about Yorkies to be honest, but I personally don't think it's good to specifically breed them too small. That's just my personal view and I may be wrong. My little boy, Badger, was the 'runt' but he looked like the others - just smaller. I'm sure it'll be okay but it might be a good idea to get him to a vet just to get his tummy and legs checked out. There might also be specific requirements for a puppy of his size in terms of general care for his little legs and so forth EDIT: also Badger's face was very flat but I think this is a good thing because it means they'll have a more 'bearish' face and not such a long snout. His was like that between 8 and 11 weeks but it's gone a little longer and more defined now |

| Our Emmie was supposedly the runt of the litter, as I had asked for the smallest puppy in the litter. She weighed 1 pound at 6 weeks. She is now 6 pounds although I believe a pound of it is fat!!! Izzy B. weighed 1.6 pounds at 6 weeks and is already well over 4 pounds at 5 months of age and she was supposedly the only pup born to this "litter" (if you could call it that). Also, for the first several weeks we had her, she also would lift her back legs off the floor when she ate!!! I thought that was weird because I don't remember Emmie ever doing that!! I bet he will be just fine, just needs time to grow.

| First, congrats on being a new Yorkie mom...About the baby you described...I think the little baby needs to be given a good, thorough vet exam along with a blood panel as well as stool studies. The description has red flags in it that I would have addressed immediately.. When you look at him face-on how do his eyes look? And, the top of his head between his ears? I am not trying to scare y'all but he does sound as if he might have some health issues. BTW, I hope the breeder didn't charge more because he was a "t-cup" (OMG, I can't believe I even wrote that word). Did she give y'all any kind of warranty or return policy or anything written into the contract?? Let us know what the vet says and post pics when you get them.. |

| The Belly concerns me, sounds like worms. Has he been seen by a Vet? If not it wouldn't hurt.

| I would get him to the vet right away. I'm betting it's worms too. Did she get a health check? If you both got your furbabies from the same place, I'd have yours checked too. I hope everything is OK. Please keep us posted.

| My Little Yorkie was also the runt and he had short legs and a fat tummy and also tipped over. lol He grew just fine. If the tummy is extra bigs it could be worms, Have him vet checked. Im sure all is well. Cant wait to see pictures. |

| You really are supposed to get them checked out by a vet right away...I didn't as my yorkie seemed very healthy to me. When I did take her a couple weeks later for her next set of shots, the vet told me she had weak back legs and poor hip configuration. This 1.7 pound 12 week old dog had walked two miles with me before the visit. I'd offer to carry her but she wanted to walk. Almost four years later she's just fine and can jump up and down from the couch with no problem although I did get her a set of steps for my high bed. I hope this little guy is alright. How old is he? I hope you'll come back and let us know how he's doing. |

| Congrats on the new babies... First off sounds like the big round fat belly might be worms. Second about his legs being so short that can be normal with the smaller ones. And about him being top heavy that is cute and funny as I had one when he was small that was like that. It was fun to watch him eat because it was sort of like a balancing act so to speak. Yes they can be different and be from the same litter as that is not unusual at all. But I would certainly get both into a vet and have them really checked out. I mean stools, blood work and all panel done. Better be safe as to be sorry. |
