You really are supposed to get them checked out by a vet right away...I didn't as my yorkie seemed very healthy to me. When I did take her a couple weeks later for her next set of shots, the vet told me she had weak back legs and poor hip configuration. This 1.7 pound 12 week old dog had walked two miles with me before the visit. I'd offer to carry her but she wanted to walk. Almost four years later she's just fine and can jump up and down from the couch with no problem although I did get her a set of steps for my high bed.
