| question about marking..... My little guy is 6 months. He'll pee outside and then pee right when I bring him back in. Is that marking? Will this stop after he is fixed? He goes Friday. Thanks for any info. |

| I can't say what your little guy is doing, but I can tell you about Tucker. He will be one year old next Saturday. He was fixed at 6 or so months old. He still marks all over the house! I thought it wouldn't happen because he was fixed but he still does. It is driving me out of my mind. The only thing that keeps me from killing him (besides those big brown eyes) is a belly band. He still pees in it, but it stays in it. Once they start marking, I don't know of any way to stop it. If anyone does know of a way, PLEASE share!

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Marking... Could it be that he is technically marking outside? Someone recommended a mix of vinegar and water (equal parts) to clean an area that they have marked. I was using OUT to clean up his stains but that didn't seem to work that well so I figure what the hell let me try the V/W solution. That seems to help. He really isn't peeing inside anymore (keeping my fingers crossed here) and hasn't tried to go in those areas that I recently cleaned.

| Does anything ever really stop marking? After all they are the ones that marked it in the first place, it's not like some other dog is doing it and they are marking over it. TRemoving the smell might make them more persistant. I'm just speculating cause I am clueless. I guess the belly bads are the way to go. |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Marking... I noticed with my dad's dogs...when Zeus goes right after him little Oreo will walk to that same spot and urinate right over where he just went in an effort to wipe out that scent....rather funny to see. I would hope that something can deter them.....at worst I can always try the belly band. Funny how not all dogs do it though. I have heard of females that also mark.

| I was told by my vet that after a male is neutered, he will stop marking in the house because he will have emptied his bladder when he urinates. Before they are neutered, they don't empty when they urinate, and can still go numerous times. This is how it happened with my two males. Could it be related to hormones that are still left after neutering, and that is why some dogs still 'mark' after they are neutered? Just wondering...

Actually, my Jack Russell, neutered at 6 months, did the pee pee pee pee on everything when we went for a walk - he too, would lift his leg and pee a few drops so many times, till nothing came out.

But seriously, I guess the best we can do is train them NOT to lift their legs in the house (and hope for the best!).
