| Good question lily24! I'd love to see everyone's comments on that one. I have two males, Bo, a 5 month old Yorkie and Woody, an 8 year old Schnauzer. They both are excellent dogs. Bo seems a little smarter than Woody, a little quicker to pick up on commands and obey. They both LOVE US!!! And they love other people. They are not shy when visitors come, as a matter of fact they think all visitors are here to see them! They are also good with each other. All these character traits have been a huge blessing. Maybe we just got lucky, I'm not sure. I haven't had a female dog since I was a teenager so can't say about them. But I wouldn't hesitate to get a female at all. The next Yorkie I get will probably be female.

| I think It totally depends on the dog. My male is crazy but quite and my female is a cuddly timid dog that barks... I think socialization can make a big difference too, but I'm no expert. |

| I agree with YorkiesX2. It depends on the dog. I have had two female dogs with wonderful personalities, well behaved and one male that was awesome.

| I have Both! I have one of each my male is sweet, lovable, affectionate, very smart and learns quickly he is by side every minute of the day. My female is basically the same, but she is more sneaky and much more independent with an attitude. My male is very social with other dogs and every person on the street. She has no interest in others very aloof, she is affectionate with us but not outgoing towards others. I think the difference is night and day! They are both good pets, but I believe my male Artie is exceptional in comparison, I do prefer his energy more so than the females. There personalities and how they interact with others are completely different. It just depends what you prefer and what your looking for in your pet? |

| I am partial to males (though I don't know why). I have also had a female Pom in the past. She is just as hyper as Frankie and is very similar in temperment. I agree with everyone else... I guess it depends on socialization. Great post! |

| I have had mostly female dogs all my life. I now have a male standard poodle, a female westie. a male yorkie and a female yorkie. When I first got my male yorkie I wanted a male because I have been told that they bond with women better and that females bond with the men in the house. I love my little guy! he is crazy, goes a mile a minute but is extremely affectionate and will snuggle anytime. He doesn't stay by my side all the time thought. He is a little independent and he will go off on his own. He loves EVERYONE and when I take him places he will jump around on his hind legs pulling at the leash to "say hello"!! He is also not afraid of other dogs. I decided I wanted a little girl too when I saw all the cute clothes and accessories for girls. I love dressing my boy but I wanted the cute bows and stuff. I also felt the opposite sexes would get along better as playmates. Well, with Hefner being all boy, Chai is definitely "ALL Girl". She can be shy and coquettish when she wants something or she will complain that Hefner is "hurting her" so she gets picked up. But yet, she plays hard and she will give it right back to him when she needs to. She loves other dogs and is outgoing as well but a tad more reserved I'd say. The Alpha dog in our house is my female westie, Billie. She rules the house. My standard poodle is a big teddy bear and just a love. My westie will run off on adventures when she gets the chance, but my poodle would never leave the yard except to follow her. My female has bonded to all of us regardless of sex. I think it just depends on who gives them the most attention. |

Of course, we all are biased to think that WE indeed have the best dog in the world, but I continue to be amazed with Sully, our 8mo. old yorkie. We were told not to get a yorkie if you have, or are planning on having kids. We want kids in about 5 years and woudl never consider getting rid of our dog. People who do that really make me sad. Anyway, we've WELL socialized Sully, with other people and dogs, but mostly people. He LOOOOVES to play with my baby cousins! I have a 5yr old cousin and twin 2 yr olds who carry hiim around their house and play dress-up with him and he totally puts up with it. In fact, I really think he has a ball with all the attention they give him!!! He's cuddly, too. Always wanting to take a doggie-nap on my lap and sleep in our bed. This morning, I woke up with Sully CUDDLING WITH MY HIMALAYAN CAT! Gotta love those two, they're WAY too cute together. At first I fussed b/c I wanted a girl (but couldn't really afford one, plus my cat is a girl and we didn't want to outnumber my husband any worse, haha.) But I couldn't ask for any better with our little Sully!!!

| I have a male maltese and a female yorkie. Both are extemely attached to me. My male is more aggressive, yappy and not as sweet natured. He likes to be at my side but not on my lap, he isn't very playful. My female yorkie is quite, more gentle, sweet natured, submissive, playful. She is more of a lap dog and wants to be held more, rocked, treated like a baby, etc. They both follow me around like shadows. I think it just depends on the personality of each dog. I prefer females..only because I had all sons..and want something thats a female. :-) . You will have a wide range of personlities and temperaments from each.
