| Selling pets!!! I recently had to find a new home for a bird that I paid $550 for. The bird was young, adorable, tame, friendly, and everything you could ask for. Along with the bird, I included an almost new cage ($100) - all its toys and play gym ($200) and books and food. I ask $350 for my loveable pet and gave the new owner over $800 dollars worth of things. I was much more concerned about my bird's finding a wonderful new home than I was about the amount of money I would get for it. I turned down the first 6 people who were interested because I didn't think they could give my bird the kind of home I wanted it to go to. Then the perfect young guy showed up -- and I sold him my bird and everything for $300 (that's all he had). IF - he couldn't have afforded anything - I would really have given him my bird for free...because I loved it so much and it was so important to me that it go to the right home. I think this sometimes happens with other pets -- and see no reason to always distrust what seems like a relatively inexpensive price for a Yorkie, or other pet. Good people aren't always interested in $$$$....it is more important to them that their loved little pet find the perfect new home. Sometimes these little guys are two or three years old, etc., but that doesn't matter. (The bird I sold was only 10 months old - and has a life span of 35 years. So - his new owner can certainly look forward to many wonderful years with him.) So - occasionally - if you see a little Yorkie advertised for not much money - be sure to at least check it out. You may be able to get a wonderful little dog and not have to pay a lot for it. I just may be someone who is looking for the right home for the little pet that they love. Good luck!!!!! Carol Jean |

| That was very nice and I think you are right most of the time, Ithe only think that concerns me is if the animal gets sick will, he or she be able to pay for the medical bills, if they couldn't afford the price of the pet??

| You did a nice thing thumbs up to you. YOu did a really nice thing. I disagree with affording. I have 4 kids and in the beginning i was STRUGGLING financially but I always found a way. If you love something you will find a way to care for it. I'm lucky now that times are alot better but when i was younger mom with younger kids it was hard but my kids never lacked for anything. |

| I agree with you. I got my lil guy for only 250.00. The lady just wanted to find a nice home for him. I spent a long time with this lady and she hadn't had peawee very long and realized she just didn't have time for him. We spent over an hour just talking about my family. She was a very caring lady. She gave me food, toys, a pet taxi and him for that low cost. She said she interviewed 9 people before I came along.

| I agree 100%. I'm selling my pups as Pet only & cheap when compared to other prices. Just because I'm selling them for a smaller amount does Not mean they arn't healthy & loved & well taken care of. They are extrememly healthy. I talk often w/ a lady that that's bought a total of 3 from previous 2 litters. For herself, 1 for hubby and 1 for college daughter. All have been neutered and are spoiled rotten babies. (as it should be) I've never had a pup that I've placed die or have any major medical problems. a very good message....You shouldn't judge a book by it's cover... Peace |

for their Yorkies but unfortunatly many will not and they are dumped in rescue or at the pound because at the end of the day - they are just dogs and who in their right mind would pay $1000 to take care of "just a dog". I have seen it, heard it and lived it through rescue.

| I agree w/ you to an extent Cindy. I am definitely not well-off. I am paying tuition and loans, etc and I work only part time. When I bought Stewie, I figured out that [reputable] breeders don't take credit cards and vets do. I don't have money to go spend 2,000 on a dog right now, but make no mistake that I have an empty credit card w/ a 5k limit in case anything comes up w/ Stewie. I also hate to see dogs given up because the owners don't take into account how much money it costs to buy the bare minimum to keep the dog healthy and alive.

| Kristy, good point, I had not thought about a credit card that is saved just for emergencies.

| Quote -- That was very nice and I think you are right most of the time, Ithe only think that concerns me is if the animal gets sick will, he or she be able to pay for the medical bills, if they couldn't afford the price of the pet?? ----------------------------------------------------------------- First of all - they can afford the price of the pet - if it's only $200. Any of us would be happy to get a great little pet for a good price. And - you might say that this would leave us "more money" to pay for vet bills. But - all things being equal -- I don't think any of us get expensive vet bills that we feel we can afford. We just get them and pay them one way or another - don't we? I had about $2500 in vet bills with one of my little dogs (not a Yorkie), and I would never have said that I could afford vet bills like that. But, she got sick a couple of times ... and I got bills. Needless to say, there were many sacrifices made in order to pay those bills. There is never any guarantee that any of us, our children, or our pets won't get sick. And, I'm not sure we should always get health guarantees when we buy a little pup. Sometimes "yes." ....but not always. I do think that we need to be careful about purchasing a pet. Assuming that most people are upfront (which they are).. we can be fairly certain that our pets are healthy when we get them. And, we should, at least, always be given the right to have a well-puppy checkup (at our expense)....and, be able to return a puppy with a full refund if there are any serious problems. As a matter of fact, that is exactly what happened to me when I got my little Yorkie. I was told to take him to a vet within two or three days after I got him -- and told that if the vet felt there were any serious problems, I could return him for a full refund. Well, of course -- he passed with flying colors and has been perfectly healthy every since. He's six months old now, very healthy; and at this point, I feel that I am personally responsible (not the person I got him from) for any vet bills, illnesses, etc. Again - I think you might have less money for vet bills if you paid $1200 for a Yorkie -- compared to paying $200. And vet bills??? My six-month-old puppy and I are on our own and doing well....knock on wood! Carol Jean |
