| ![]() Thank you all so much for your replies!!!! It is obvious that the general consensus is that they come -- but only if they feel like it. Not one of the small dogs in my neighborhood will come when they are called. The owners are always out doing everything in the world to catch them.....we all pitch in all the time. BUT - the larger breeds come in a second..they have done it since they were puppies and never even needed to be trained to do so. ********* Anyway (in the house) I am working with a whistle and "chicken." My house is large and no matter where he is - he comes like a little bullet when I blow the whistle. Summer is coming and we'll soon be going outdoors - this is why I'm working hard to train him now. I sure hope it works when we go outside. I'm a little afraid though that some of the squirrels and quail, etc., around here will be far more enticing to him than a piece of "chicken." But we will soon find out. Carol Jean Thanks again for so many replies. |

| ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This is a cute one Carol Jean. Congratulations on your new training techniques. Sounds about right to me. Kips obedience training really means, "come running, flip over, roll, and play peekaboo out of the corner of her eyes" until she gets her treat. The 'sit' thing is a waste of time to her...she knows I'll cave in and give her the cookie anyway.

| ![]() My little girl never comes to me when i call her. When she was little she would run from me and when i caught her i would rub her belly and say good girl. I know that sounds un orthadox but now she never runs from me when i call her she will lay down and roll over on her back waiting for me to rub her belly. I guess when i say Sassy come her she associates that with a belly rub, hehe. She is a brilliant little dog and knows about 17 tricks but i could never teach her to come!! Melinda and Sassy Little |

| ![]() Coco comes to me, yea when he does feel like it...or when he feels that I'm being 'nice.' He just follows me around more than he listens when I give him 'commands.' Of course, when I have a treat in my hand..he does listen...but I don't want him to be doing that and getting spoiled by the treats. |

| ![]() Well I worked on this last night for about 20 mins. I had to put on his leash, which he still will not come right up to me, and when I give him slack, he'll come up, but when you go to pet, or touch him, he backs up. It is so frustrating. And without a leash forget it. On a brighter note. I did teach him to shake, I tried that thinking if he'll let me shake his hand, he'll have to come. SO we got the shake down. ![]() Take the training leash off,, no come, so can't get close enough to shake. UGHHH! Is it just me??

| ![]() Baxter will only come when called when he A) feels like it B) when there is a treat involved. By the way, wanna bone works well for me when they won't come in C) when I call my cocker spaniels name after trying to catch Baxter. He likes to be the center of my world and wont let the cocker come between us. Works every time! ![]()
