| ![]() For their very safety...COME needs to be the command they know better than any other. They should ALWAYS want to come. I agree with Muffie's Mom that you should not use "come" until the dog has it mastered and will come everytime unless you are actively training and have the dog on a leash. You should also never use a harsh voice when you give the "come" command or do it when yo are angry and want to punish the dog in some way for a misdeed. This is a common mistake and the dog learns to associate "coming" with bad things instead of praise and treats. You should always go get the dog in those instances. You need to make yourself the most appealing thing to the dog, more appealing than that rabbit running across the yard. You have to be all FUN and playtime when you train "come". A solid "come" behavior has saved many a dog's lives. |

| ![]() Boy do I feel better. Must be a Yorkie thing. Your all absolutely right, if there is something in it for them they come most of the time. Buddy looks at me like I have two heads when I tell him to come. The word come to him means run as fast as you can in the oppisite direction. I worry if he ever gets off leash outside he won't come when called. If they learn anything come is suppose to be a must and you can understand why. He is so funny most of the time all I do is laugh at him and it is scary how intelligent they really are but yet the word come means everything but! |

| ![]() Yup Coco knows better than not to come when called. It was hard to master but she's got it down now. Also STOP is a good one.

| ![]() Oscar comes when he thinks there is something in it for him and then he still has to think about it. When you say his name he will look at you but sometimes that's all he's going to do. My husband jokes that he's like a cat. He'll be your buddy and your supposed to pay attention to him when he wants and only when he's in the mood. |

| ![]() if their all like mine, they are some of the quickest little dogs Ive ever seen and fast runners. Thats why I usuall always put kizzys leash on to take her out. She wont come if i call her, once in a while she will come for a cheerio but I think thats only if she decides she rather have it than maybe the rock she is playing with. But in the house she does come most of the time when she hears me call her name. unless she just peed the floor then i dont even have to know it but she tells me because she runs the other way or runs and jumps in her bed. Thats because, sometime when she wets the floor, i make her get in her bed and stay for a few minute. I usually just so go get in your bed in a harsh tone and man she runs and hops right in. I laugh to myself.

| ![]() I have a bag with different kinds of treats in it so my dogs never know what they are going to get. I think they like the excitement of what they are going to get this time. But even so, if they are enjoying what they are doing more than they want a treat they won't come either. They always come in the house though--there is nothing that exciting in the house. ![]() |
