| Dear Patti, The x-pen sounds like a good idea yes. We have fenced in yard in which the girls that the girls run and do their thing in. It's a pretty big space for them and they love to run. The snow is packed hard enough right now that they can walk on top of the snow and explore all over. They are picking up twigs and leaves from the Autumn season (who would have guessed that these leaves fell for Annie and Susie - grin). So that's the scoop on our yard situation. Thanks for your idea and taking the time to write me okay? Yorkie Love, Terra |

| I will be very happy when the "no begging needed" time comes! Wow! We do use treats and now we are also trying a squeak toy. If the treat doesn't work, we wait a little bit and use the squeak toy that they like - they come right over. I just hope it works as well when I am out there with the two girls by myself. |

| I found that it helped immensely to put them on a leash when taking them outside. That way you can take them exactly where you want them to go potty. And you can lead her right back inside when she's finished.

| URGH!! i know the feeling of Puppy Blues When we got Chelsey i was ok, but when Chanel came along i felt desperate i tried SO hard to be brave, she was VERY tiny it was scary, the evening we brought her home, it was like something snapped in me and i broke down, the next day i wanted to bring her back, i was scared to get attached to her, affraid she wouldnt make it! Thank God my husband spoke some sense into me and assured me that she would be fine Most of the time we dont want to show how we truely feel after we bring the new babies home, because we are "suppose to be on cloud 9" it changes life and it sure can be overwhelming!! We want to do everything so perfect and make no mistakes, but i guess we have to make mistakes to learn.

You be the 1st out the door. You be the one to feed them You make them sit before they eat. You be the one to walk them outside to go potty. You be the one to teach them their name. You make them sit in front of you to be petted. On and on and on and on! I have bought probably 4-5 books since we got Missy and I still am asking questions! lol

| Chanel must be doing wonderful now huh? Thanks for your honesty and expressing true reality to these little ones when we first get them. Whew. You know that really helps. It's nice to know others realize that the image of being on cloud 9 isn't always the case and sometimes that cloud just seems to fall on you (big grin). Blessings, Yorkie Love, Terra |

Yes Chanel is now 11 months and 4lbs, she's a healthy little girl and at times too wise for her boots but she is loved to death. For months now i am sliding on a guilt trip, to THINK that I could have taken HER back to the breeder it sounds goofy, but when i think of how i felt that w/end breaks my heart! I can still get very mad at myself! She looked SO sad it was pathetic, we took her to the vet that monday, she weighed in at 300 Gram's the vet asked me which breeder we got her from I never spoke much about it here, because i was affraid of how it would end. Now i know better They couldnt microchip her till she was 5 months old because she was too small.

| Gosh, you would think I had an actual baby. I probably spent as much $ on books and things as I did on Princess. That just means you will be a good mom! |

A microchip is a little chip that the vet injects into the shoulder area by the dog. By law we have to have dog's microchipped incase a pet gets lost, when found they can be identified by the vet and reunited with its owner. Also if someone's pet was stolen and the original owner has reported it to the Data base, they will report the number and discription of the dog to all the vets. Dog's used to get a tattoo, thats now replaced by the microchip. Puppy kisses and hugs back to you

| Terra, I wanted to tell you not to give up on teaching your Yorkies to come when called. This was the scariest thing with my babies. My girl Pippa is a little spitfire and would take off running full speed if she could find a way out the front door. She did this more than once and we live in a busy area with lots of traffic. I would nearly have a heart attack everytime and "chase" her till I caught her. She even got out once when we weren't home (a good samaritan found her and she was back home in less than 24 hours). Talk about a sleepless, heart-sick night! It was then I determined that she needed intensive training for her own safety. But let me tell you, it's not easy with Yorkies! Pippa does come when called now, but we had to find what worked for HER...she's not a big treat girl, so that didn't work. She IS a very playful girl, so we found that if we called her name playfully (HARD WHEN THEY ARE RUNNING INTO THE STREET!) and run the other way clapping hands and looking joyful, she turns around and chases us right into the house. We are still working on her, though. And I think it requires constant work. Scout, on the other hand, completed 3 courses at Petsmart and had one instance where he got out of the house with me and started toward the street, and all I had to do was say, "scout come, scout come". He has never failed me on that. I think they just have different personalities, so you just have to go with what works with the individual. Good Luck!! Oh, and definetely look into classes to GO TO-there's nothing like having an actual dog trainer and homework to motivate you to work!

| Hi Terra! I thought I was the only one who went through this!! I am now 3 months in and much better. I took Bailey to puppy training and discovered that he is smart!! I felt like the one being trained! Anyhow, I know how you feel about them not coming when called, the trainer told us to use a 20' leash...it's a lot easier to get a hold something that long as opposed to a small very fast yorkie!! It's worked great and now I can have peace of mind letting him outside to run 'freely' which he loves to do. Good luck!! |

| The best way that i have ever gotten Ella to come is with a clicker and a treat. Just because she loves weird noises....and she knows once she gets hears the clicker she will get the treat. But when i'm leaving for work and i'm about to put her in her bed she knows its coming and she'll run straight under my bed, not a treat will entice her. i then have to spend 15 minutes trying to get her out from under there and i am then late for work. it is frustrating but you learn tricks for them to do what you want. Hang in there it will get better!!!!! |
