| suki can jump out of her playpen! We keep Suki in a child's playpen when we can't be with her monitoring her movements. Tonite, while we were getting ready for bed, we put her in her playpen to settle down for bedtime. Before we knew it, she had somehow jumped out and was running all over the place. This is where she has been sleeping. And this is where we put her when we have to leave the house. Now, we are at a loss. Does this mean her days of the playpen are over and we should put her in a crate? We initially tried the crate method, but she throws up in it--it is so restrictive. Please advise! thanks! We could partition off the laundry room for a bigger space. Maybe that is the answer for when we leave the house? What about at nite? She has been in the playpen next to my daughters bed. She'll (daughter and Suki) will not like being separated! |

| Maybe you could try attaching something to cover the top? If she will go along wih it the laundry room idea sounds good though. Keep trying! |

| Trina can jump 2', but we got a 3' tall cage at Tractor Supply. She hasn't jumped that one - yet! They are about 4' x 4' and just sit on the floor.

| Once they've learned how to escape the play pen, they'll do it again and again! I called my dog the little escape artist. She'd even escape the baby gates! Good luck in finding a solution!

| When my Yorkie was a tiny little pup - he lasted only about ten minutes before he climbed out of the playpen. So much for that! I confine him to the kitchen (a good sized room with food, water, toys, bed, etc.) BUT - I am waiting for him to learn how to climb the gate and get out. It will probably be just a matter of time.....right! Carol Jean |

| That is a great idea about confining to one room. Our kitchen is too open---there are no regular sized doorways in the kitchen to put a gate up. The laundry room has a "dutch door" but I would almost feel bad keeping her in there while the family is home, because she would be isolated from the family. We have a baby gate in the front living room and that is where her "stuff" is. The only bad thing about that is the room is carpeted and she isn't really completely potty trained yet. (we are still working on this but she is strond willed) Last nite after she leapt from the playpen to my daughter's bed, she got really wired and we were having a difficult time calming her down. I guess she was so excited about her new trick! Anyway, against my wishes, my daughter put her in bed w/her "just to calm her down" and then was going to put her in the playpen when she was sleepy. Well, they both fell asleep and Suki never made it back to her playpen. In the morning we were all thrilled to see that Suki hadn't wet the bed---she held it all nite and promptly went on the potty pad next to her playpen. Good girl! We are trying this again tonite, but don't you know it may not end up so positive! We'll hope! And by the way, Suki got her first grooming (hair cut) today and when I picked her up, she looked like a schnauzer--we told her she was an imposter all along! A schnauzer dressed up to look like a yorkie! She just looked at us like we were nuts! I am loving this little dog! Gail |

| My Gracie escaped the play pen when she was a pup, scared me half to death. I was in the shower, the playpen was in my room next to the door to the bathroom, I stepped out of the shower and almost stepped on her! The solution to keeping her in the playpen was simple for us. A sheet thrown over the top worked. She sleeps in her playpen at night, right next to my bed, and has not escaped since. You can also try securing the baby gate to the top of the playpen, I have done that before when I needed to make sure that she would not get out.

| Excellent idea about placing the gate on top of the playpen. We initially put a sheet over the playpen but for some reason we stopped doing it. I'm afraid now she will expect to sleep in the big bed w/my daughter. Maybe tomorrow nite we'll try the sheet again. Where does Gracie go when you have to leave the house and she is left alone? Back in the playpen or is she trustworthy enough to have more space? Thanks! Gail |
