| frontline top spot hurts my yorkie.. My female yorkie, 15 months old, is totally distressed when I apply Original Frontline Topspot to the back of her neck. She rolls around and just goes wild trying to get it off her. I can not watch her suffer any more by using it on her. I let her suffer for over 4 hours, 2 months ago and finally she settled down. Last month after about 2 hours I caved in and gave her a shower to wash it off. I called FRONTLINE and told them this and they had no answer. SO... what can I use to keep the fleas and ticks of her. Appreciate any advice. Thanks! Jackieo |

| I don't have any answers, but I know my little guy is on Advantix and he does the same thing....I apply it and he will rub and roll around the bed and couch trying to get it off.....I hadn't really thought much about it because he does that after a bath too and neither time, it doesn't last long at all. I had heard that you can apply it down the back (neck to mid back) that way, it is not all in one area. Have you talked to your vet? I will add this to my "ask the vet" list when I go.......it would be great if there were any natural ways to ward of fleas and ticks and mosquitoes....

| The first yorkie I had did the same thing. Its does'nt hurt them in any way it can itch and that is irritating that why she trys to rub it off. its no big deal, just give it time and it will absorb into her shin and it won't itch anymore. My new yorkie I have yet to see if she hates it she is only 10 weeks old and to young ofr flea meds, however I use it on my greta dane and get the same response. My sil is a vet and she told me it itches like a bug bite for about an hour. Hope that calms your fears. |

| I get mine from the vet and I have had no problems, but I have heard others say that what you get at walmart etc will for what ever reason cause problems. |

| My vet told me that dogs have more reactions to frontline than to advantage. So I use the advantage with no problems. But maybe she just feels it and decides she doesn't want it there anymore! lol Is the skin irritated after it's applied? Red or scaley? I was also told that the formulas for flea AND tick for both frontline and advantage cause much much more reactions than the simple flea preventative.. ??

As far as tick preventative.. I just say skip it bc I groom/brush Harley daily and check over all his skin anyway and if he does happen to have a tick I can feel and see it and am able to pull it off. Now, fleas that's a whole other story!

| There are a lot of natural, homeopathic remedies that are so much better for our dogs than these chemicals. Please talk to a homepathic vet or look online for natural remedies. They work just as well and are not poisonous. |

| Ticks are a big concern. We can comb daily and an infected tick can latch on, suck the blood, infect the host and drop off before we find them. The deer tick which is the Lyme host is no larger than the head of a straight pen even when full. So, you can see why they are so dangerous..I buy a plant that smells like citronella and we use it on ourselves for skeeters and other little beasties. I have also rubbed it on my dogs but not into their skin. Just on their coat..I have used tea tree oil but someone said their dog had a bad reaction to that. Allergies in dogs as in people can occur to anything. |

| Thanks everybody... I got frontline from my vet. I have been using it on her for about 10 months and the first few months, it did not seem to bother her too much. Last couple times, she was in misery. When she has bath and is dried off, she rolls around on carpet but seems to be very happy. The rolling on carpet after applying frontline was NOT a happy thing. I could see it in her eyes, she thought I was being mean to her. BTW, I was going to try just using 1/2 the dose this time. I had her on my lap to remove her collar, and she saw the package of frontline and she jumped off my lap and ran and hid. She has never run from me before. She knew she was not going to like it. So I did not apply it this month. Now looking for better alternative. Will talk to the vet. Thanks again. Jackieo |

YT 3000 Club Member | I like revolution because it is not a insecticide like the other and it covers more stuff, mange, american dog tick, fleas heartworm and ear mites and is more water proff as far as shampooing. |

| There is another current thread on this topic that you may want to check out... I use Revolution, which I get from my vet, with no problems. My mother, however, has used Frontline on her Shih Tzu poo (sp) and it caused him to go into seizures....

| I use Advantix from the vet because I am concerned with misquitoes (and they are bad here)! Does Revolution cover misquitoes too? I give my guy interceptor for hearthearms, so I couldn't use Revolution on him, if it is suppose to deal with heartworms too. I too was told never to use anything from Wal-Mart and was told that Frontline only worked for one thing (either fleas or ticks...can't remember which). I am too afraid with misquitoes and deer ticks (since we live in the boonies and have lots of wildlife around)....not to use something!! I will have to check out the other thread too.........Thanks!
