| Yorkie colors This is just a “general information” question. I’m not looking to buy another yorkie, and I’m not interested in breeding. Anyway, a few days ago, while I was playing around with google, I stumbled across an ad (asking price thousands of dollars) for a (very young) female yorkie puppy. The ad said the puppy is purebred, although it didn’t mention her being registered. What struck me as really odd though, is that the ad said the puppy “carries 15 different colors.” I know there are normal (black and tan fading to blue and tan), chocolate and parti yorkies. And I’ve heard of gold, white, black & white, and black yorkies — although I don’t know whether the more rare colors are really purebred or are recognized by the AKC. But I can’t, for the life of me, visualize 15 different yorkie colors. I kind of figure this was an ad by someone who isn’t a reputable breeder, but I’m still curious. How many “rare colors” of purebred yorkies actually exist? Also, wondering this brought up another question. Does the fading gene in yorkies affect other colors the way it affects black & tan pups? In other words, does the black in parti yorkies fade to blue, or does it stay black? Again, these are just questions I’m curious about. |

| I’m thinking more then likely it was a lie to just make money. The parti, chocolate, and even gold are not really rare anymore either, people like to put rare in there to jack up prices. All three of those can be AKC registered. With Ollie who is a chocolate I had to send in a picture of him with his papers filled in by hand instead of doing it online. I have noticed that a lot of these dogs that are called off the wall colors and stuff generally aren’t AKC so more then likely are mixes. I do not believe that the black fades in partis but I have never had one so I could be wrong.

I’m just not comprehending what the breeder meant in claiming there are 15 different colors possible. However, I suppose it’s something he/she can get away with claiming if not questioned closely by a buyer. | |

| AKC recognizes only one color combination as far as conformation classes are concerned - Blue and Tan, but when registering with AKC other color options are available. And we all know that just because a dog is full blooded (or even registered) doesn't mean it is a good quality specimen. Sadly false advertising for monetary gain is a common practice with unethical breeders. It is up to the individual looking to purchase a pup to research their breeders. |
