Nervous about Yorkies’s Weight.

14 pounds is NOT a BIG dog, yes, bigger then a 5 pounder, but still a small dog. Please do not let the weight scare you, your pup will still be small just not as small as a wee lil 5 pounder.

It’s really not that big. If one of the parents was 8 pounds they could have had larger genes which could throw a bigger pup. Still a small dog.

It's possible that the breeder lied but I just recently talked to someone who bred their dog, she is 1.6 kgs and father is 2.0 kgs. There was only one puppy born and puppy is already over 2 kgs at 15 weeks. Both parents' parents, grandparents and greatgrandparents were tiny so throwbacks to many generations back is possible albeit rare.

Just for your future information. A breeding female should always bigger then the breeding male.

This female weighed 1.60 KGS = a bit over 3 1/2 pounds,

male weighed 2.0 KGS=4 1/2 pounds
1-Now a pound may not mean much to us, as humans, but when breeding toy breeds and using a female only weighing 3 1/2 pounds makes a big difference and possible reason only one puppy was produced, that breeder is lucky she did not lose her female with that one big puppy.
2- It is not safe breeding a female under 5 pounds or 2.268 KGS.

She is not a breeder, she did it to keep the puppy.

One can only hope that the future brings less focus on purity and more of a focus on the well-being of the dogs. No more docking. No more breeding smaller and smaller regardless on the health impacts.

Yes 14lbs is not actually big just larger than I wanted. I took him to another vet who informed me he most likely will be no less than 15lbs. My other Yorkie was 2lbs at 2months and ended to be 9lbs. I received another Yorkie and this time seen the parents and this one won’t be large. Thanks for the help!

I didn’t know a puppy’s size can be affected by grandparents. Plus I forgot to ask to see the parents so all I had to go on was the word of the breeder. I received another Yorkie and this time I seen the parents, and now I know better for next time. Thanks

So you got rid of the one that could reach 15 pounds and bought or exchanged for a smaller puppy?

Maybe it's because the landlord doesn't allow medium or large dogs. Think of the horror of your baby growling "too large" and your landlord forcing you to go through the trauma of relocating and moving just to be able to keep your baby.
I hated apartment hunting worse than almost anything! And moving was awful, so much work.

I was born and raised in NY (the Bronx) I lived in a private house with the landlord living under me. (they had the first floor apt. I was on the 2nd floor). They sold the house, the new landlord was forcing me to move out, forcing like I would be in the shower, they would turn off the water, I just got out, wrapped a towel around my hair, put my robe on and waited for them to turn the water back on. They destroyed my 78 Monte Carlo which was a classic and in MINT condition (this all happened in 2002). I was looking for another apt. even a house to buy, no one renting apartments would rent to me because I had 2 yorkies, one weighed 9 Lbs, the other 17Lbs. No dogs allowed. I had my summer home here in The Poconos PA. My friends kept telling me to move to Pa. but I worked in Manhattan, I didn't think I could sit on a bus for 1 1/2 hours without getting car/bus sick. Then this landlord told a neighbor they laid out rat poison and I better watch out for the dogs. That neighbor told me, that was the straw that broke this camels back. I packed up and hauled my belongings to my tiny summer home where I am now living just to save my babies. I made a huge sacrifice for my girls, my babies, moved 2 states away where I knew NO ONE, commuted to Manhattan via bus a 1 1/2 hr trip, I was gone 14 hours a day and did this for 10 years until I retired. I would NEVER have given up my babies to stay in NY. Once I hold a wee lil baby in my hands they are mine forever, it doesn't matter to me what size they become, but that is ME.

15 pounds is not a medium dog so he still would have been a small dog. Never could I give up a puppy once I got them. It’s actually kind of upsetting someone can just shut off like that. I would live in my tiny little Honda Fit before getting rid of my babies.
