There was a member here who bred silky’s and about the time she left she bred had a yorkie silky together on “accident” and was selling them as pure yorkies. She has a small version of a puppy mill now I just can’t get over putting money over living being lives.

Because Matese was so big my vet thought she was a Silky, she had AKC papers, registered as a Blue yorkie. To bad there was no DNA for dogs at this time, just for the heck of it I would have did it. How many newbies posted pictures asking if their new puppy looked like a yorkie and most certainly did NOT. People do not research the breed. They see a tiny dog, ask what it is then buy a puppy that they don't even know what a yorkie puppy should look like. So this woman could pass off a yorkie/silky mix as a pure yorkie, uneducated ppl would not know the difference.

Yeah I have seen some people seriously get duped. Ollie has AKC papers too and he is 15 pounds as of Thursday. I thought about doing the DNA thing with the girls and Joey but honestly I don’t really care. It’s not going to change my love for them. I was interested in the health benefits of that one but only a few things can be related to yorkies anyway. I just can’t stand people who lie it’s one of my biggest pet peeves.

A 'German Shepherd' is a man that tends sheep or other livestock. Dog. The word 'Dog' is in the correct name for the breed.

MINE TOO!

As far as DNA. Why? I get what you are saying. But if you are not breeding or showing in Conformation, why waste the money????

I think that a lot of puppy mills use larger Yorkies for making puppies, two reasons really, one is they really do not care, the other is the theory that the larger dogs have MORE puppies per litter. Another, or third reason is, the larger dogs do better in outdoor pens.

<sighs> Oh Joan, I am SO WITH YOU ON THIS! It's Tragic! You know what is worse? These people that start the rumors that 'mixed breed dogs are healthier'. WHAT BULL..... Mixed breed dogs bring the genes from multiple problems of other dog breeds that were not cared for enough to stop mixed breedings, into the dog produced. The reason stupid people think mixes are healthier is that they are MIXED BREEDS and not tested, not watched (movement), not working (stressed), ect., ect., ect.

Some people think that breeds, name any breed, especially Working Breeds have a LOT of health problems. The truth is....those dogs are Watched more closely by people who know what they are looking at, Tested, and WORKING! It's not that they are any less healthy, it's that they are 'tried and trued'.

There is a kennel (notice no caps) not too far from here with outdoor small pens, the type up off the ground so that the people do not have to clean poop often, USDA approved (I could explode on that line of crap!), pen after pen, pens lined up, cages really. They breed all sorts of MIXED SMALL BREEDS. Mokies is there top selling. They have this xxxxpoo and that xxxxpoo.... and yorkiepoos, obviously their most active stud is a Poodle! Just Tragic! How sad is that!?????

I have no problem with outside, well cared for dogs. Working Dogs should be outdoors to be accustomed to it. Mine are. BUT I AM ALSO OUT THERE WITH THEM FURTHER THAN JUST FEEDING!

And these so called 'rescues' that are BREEDING mixed breed dogs and making up sad stories so that all the folks will send money and buy their dogs!

BUYERS OF THESE DOGS ARE THE PROBLEM!

Mixed breeds ends up with double whamies, almost every breed has a genetic issue, now you have 2 breeds with genetic issues to be aware of. Anyone I know or meet, I tell them to google the breed their dog is mixed with to see what heath issues they can have because, a mix can have both. Ppl actually think mix dogs are pedigree dogs lol. The younger generation is worse, ones that have never owned a dog actually believe they have a pure bred dog, very very sad.

I agree, many of the larger yorkies are from puppy mills, these are factories that produce dogs, they mate their females with every heat until that females dies. Disgusting. Morkies are the most popular and the most expensive, next is the yorkiepoo, but not as expensive but they will be and soon, makes me sick to my stomach.

Then we get newbies that say their puppy is CKC registered lol, what they don't know is, there are two CKC

one is the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) this is like our AKC your litter has to registered.

The the 2nd CKC is the "Continental" Kennel Club (CKC) which is a bogus registry, you can list your kitchen table, they require no proof of a litter, nothing.

It would sicken me if I had to pass a puppy mill often.

There was one of the DNA tests that checks a lot of health things like over 100 things but I was told only 5 or 6 of those are checkable in yorkies. Both girls are not reputable registered and Joey had no papers so just kind of a I wonder thing. But they are way to pricey and I’m not sure I’m convinced they are 100% right. Yes that is true about using a bigger yorkie. Although no yorkie no matter the size is really meant to be in an outside pen for life or even a full 24 hour day because of them having no undercoat and stuff. Sadly some of these puppy mills will even do their own csections on dogs. It’s terrible. We have several Amish near us that have puppy mills. Everyone likes to think the Amish are so great but they are huge puppy mill owners and not nice to most of their animals.

I meant we maybe should have 2 size groups of yorkies. Not necessarily in 2 different show groups. I think it’s stupid they are in the toy group anyway they are much more terrier then toy.

We call those legal puppy mills. There are so many of them it’s just sickening. I’m really not a fan of any dog living outside. Most dogs prefer to be with their humans whether working or not. I know many hunting dogs that live inside and still are excellent at what they do and the same for police dogs.

There is an Amish puppy mill right on the main road we have to take to go pretty much anywhere. They are not breeding yorkies but Labs, beagles, and German Shepard’s. I looked up the place the women I got Penny from got her from and they listed like 8 breeds and only 2 being pure the others all mixes.

<laughs and winks> Isn't THAT the truth?! Katy is 100% Terrier Huntress! She and those Mole Hills.... <shakes head and laughs again!> And she LOVES her Closed Tunnel! Loves it, learned it as soon as we made it. Terrier to the Bone!

But, they, Yorkies, are also the Toy Group size. So I get it.
