| Soft dog stool? Hey guys, I know this is rather gross(sorry in advance) but I needed to ask about it as it's been driving me crazy.... Her poop has been solid enough that it retains shape, but it's moist enough that when you pick it up or try to-- it becomes a mess and instead of picking all of it up-- most of it gets spread around the ground even more. Now some of you may suggest to use water to dilute it-- while that would had been an okay idea... It really isn't considering we use well water-- so we're concerned about it contaminating our water(I don't know how it works but people have told us to be careful about it). Just to note, she is fine on her food, it's not the food as she was transitioned very slowly. She just drinks 2 bowls of water a day and I think that might be it(though the bowl isnt huge). Sometimes she just drinks 1.5 bowls, and on hotter days 3 bowls are possible. I've been thinking about using the product "Poop freeze" but some people are saying bad things about it-- to be honest the idea sounds good because I think they're using liquid nitrogen which would essentially freeze up the poop. Obviously, one should take the dog back inside -- somewhere secure like a crate and then come back outside to use the spray so that the dog isn't tempted enough to get close to it. As dogs don't understand these complex things I thought it'd be good to let it through. What do you guys use? Please don't suggest the water + soap as I want to avoid possible water contamination (the last thing I want to do is be the cause of some household crisis), it's a good idea and it works it's just not the appropriate one for the current situation. Please enlighten me, the sooner the better. I was thinking maybe I could carry around some baking soda with me and drop it on the poop and it might absorb the moisture enough to be able to pick it up... But not sure if its a good idea or if itll contaminate the water should it seep thorugh. |

| We have well water to but our water comes from PA I think. Things like poo shouldn't make a difference I think it's chemicals that are a bigger issue.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | If it is *that* moist, then honestly - I really feel she is on the wrong food. Poos should be firm, solid, formed - not mushy, grainy, falling apart moist. What are you feeding?

I avoided the orijen because it was overly expensive and i heard bad rumors from them. Plus the bag was 100$ dollars. Which she might not even like or even be good for her. Last edited by FlyingNimbus; 05-30-2017 at 07:59 AM. | |

I feed raw, but kibbles I recommend or use for traveling are: Natures Logic Venison, Solid Gold Wee Bits, Wellness Core, Solid Gold Barking At The Moon...

My two are currently on Fromm too. But having said that, every dog handles different kibble brands differently. When Scottie was a puppy, I did a bit of research and found one that had a great return policy - if the bag has been opened and the dog gets sick from it, they will return or exchange it as long as it hasn't been consumer more than 40%. I felt bad at first. But their company motto was to help us figure out which kibble works for our dogs. Then they got me to become a loyal long-term customer. Maybe you might find one like this in your area? So, how long has your dog's poop been this consistency for? Has your vet ruled out any kind of bacterial/gut infections? I have never consumed well water before... but have you tried switching to bottled water for your dog? I know it must be fine for you to drink, but sometimes you never know what kind of sensitivities your little one might have. It's a lot of trial and error playing detective work. Last, I started using probiotic max in their meals. It seems to have significantly improved their digestion and their poop. Something to consider...

| The well water could just be it. Cody cannot drink well water, he gets soft mussy poop. I tried several brands of water, he would drink a little bit, it didn't improve the poop and he didn't like the water. He will only drink Poland Spring water in the hard plastic bottle and his poop is perfect. Another story Many years ago I had a poodle, lived in a tenement building she drank tap water, she was 6 yo when my (now) ex-husband and I bought a house in the country, we had well water. The poodle's poop was mussy, I worked in the city (NY) I would take a gallon jug to work with me and fill it with tap water, and that is what my dog drank and her poop became normal. I would try bottle water and see if that makes a difference.
