The well water could just be it. Cody cannot drink well water, he gets soft mussy poop. I tried several brands of water, he would drink a little bit, it didn't improve the poop and he didn't like the water.He will only drink Poland Spring water in the hard plastic bottle and his poop is perfect.
Another story
Many years ago I had a poodle, lived in a tenement building she drank tap water, she was 6 yo when my (now) ex-husband and I bought a house in the country, we had well water. The poodle's poop was mussy, I worked in the city (NY) I would take a gallon jug to work with me and fill it with tap water, and that is what my dog drank and her poop became normal.
I would try bottle water and see if that makes a difference.
