| Just a vent I went out to walk my beautiful Mickey today and some woman says to me "Oh, is he a Silky?" I told her no that he is a yorkie, full blooded. He is a teapot at 9 pounds but he has a cute little short nose and gorgeous big brown eyes and of course not a dinky 5 pounder. She says "My yorkie is a purebred " and I said "So is he. He has papers and everything." She just stuck her nose up and walked away. Sorry but this is just wrong. Don't get me wrong, I love the tinies and had a beautiful 3.5 pounder myself until he died. Dudley was a beautiful baby, But he wasn't any more beautiful than my Mickey. Sorry to rant but people like that tick me off. I never said things like that about anyone's baby, and deserve the same respect from others. Thanks for listening.

| Been there, my now passed girl was 17 pounds, she had a beautiful sleek body, ppl would also ask me if she was a silky, I would tell them NO, she is AKC registered full yorkie. Several weeks ago I was at the vet with my adopted 12 pound boy. There was an elderly man with a tiny carrier waiting to sign in. Well Cody wants to take on a waiting room full of dogs so he called a "bit" of attention to us. The elderly man asks me what breed is my dog lol, I say a yorkie, He holds up this tiny carrier and says a yorkie? I have a yorkie, I tell him what a lot of ppl don't understand is, many yorkies are over the standard 5 to 7 pounds, he says 7 pounds, mine is 3.2 pounds, I laugh and say, great, but your baby can't jump off anything high and has very delicate bones, you have to be very very careful with yours, now my boy can leap and jump and be a crazy boy without me worrying he'll get hurt. Thankfully the receptionist called him, I was ready to blast him about breeders that breed for TINY dogs. ALL my passed yorkies were teapots, the smallest I had weighed 9 lbs. Larger yorkies fit my life style, my 12 pound boy to me in TINY after spending 17 years with a 17 pound girl lol. Don't feel bad, YT has a lot of teapots and have all heard the same as we have.

| Why do people think yorkies have to be small? My last yorkie was really small and had IBD genetically from a breeder trying to breed little yorkies. I was dumb and did not know any better but we loved her and took care of her til she was 12 1/2 years old. We were devastated to lose her. I learned so much from yorkie talk and my husband and I met a wonderful breeder and now have Kinder. She weighs 6.7 pounds and she is healthy. I do not think anything is wrong with a bigger yorkie in fact my very first yorkie many years ago weighed 15 pounds. All that matters is we love our yorkies right? Susan |

| It's so frustrating isn't it and such a struggle not to be snippy! I often wonder if people would be so rude and thoughtless talking about other people's children... I get a similar reaction from people asking what's wrong with my 5lb girl and is she a real Yorkie because she's not big enough |

Glad you vented here. Try not to let her get too far under your skin bc see that red sentence above...? THAT is the kind of person *you* are - and that's a person to be proud of bc you'd never act toward another person as she did to you. Your Mickey is your baby, and he is beautiful at any size !

| Mickey is beautiful. Max and Teddy give him 2 paws up for being in the 9 pound club.

| Yep, just let it go knowing that yours is nearly twice as lovable because he's nearly twice the size. I was just telling my one boy last night he's worth as much as our other three combined because he weighs what they do combined! LMAO All in good fun! |

| I know what and who Piper is...I know who I am. I wonder why strangers seem to think they know better than I? I guess maybe they need to feel important, superior or some such and if they "know" Piper isn't a Yorkie (she's @nine pounds), I certainly won't bother nor be able to convince them otherwise. I have my Piper-girl and she's absolutely perfect for me--as your "mighty" Mickey is for you---all-in-all, we're better for our babies, any size, every size---each is just the right size! |

| This gets me, too. Silky terriers are longer in the body than a Yorkie. Our Perseus is a little longer than Zeus, but we know for a fact that he is full bred Yorkie. We've seen the mother and father. Zeus and Perseus have the same mother. I'm waiting for snide remarks myself, even though both of mine are about 5 lbs. Ignore the negative comments and love that beautiful boy! |

| I've been asked this before as well by another yorkie owner. I think it was because my babies have long silky hair - they automatically thought 'silky terrier'? But gosh, mine look nothing like Silkies, not even very very slightly! I knew she had no idea what she was talking about but it was annoying. I didn't bother explaining to her.. haha... In another incident, some stranger with a yorkie walks up to me and insisted to let me know "just because you have a yorkie doesn't mean you have to grow out their hair like the pictures - you can shave it short you know". Really? Wow. hahaha... Some people! It's amazing how many people force their thoughts on you when you just want a nice quiet dog walk.

| I feel your pain. I have two - a 3.5 pound one and a 7 pound one. Half the people we run into when we're out tell me my 7 pounder is huge and must be mixed. The other half try to shame me for buying such a tiny one, which I didn't set out to do. I got them from the same breeder. One just happened to be larger and one just happened to be smaller. I never got these types of comments when I had my last yorkie, who was 5.5 pounds. |

A month later he told my daughter oh, well, I'll bet you're disappointed that your puppy isn't a full yorkie. Well, daughter isn't like I am. She's a bit mouthy. She said, well, those papers and her standard weight and standard appearance would state otherwise. And she walked off. My point? yorkies come in all weights. Yes, AKC "STANDARD" is 3-10 pounds. This is according to some fantastic vets we absolutely adored but left for a closer vet, and also according to AKC. Standard. Those are guidelines. That doesn't #$#$#$#@$#@$#@$ mean that they HAVE to be between THOSE weights. There are horrible people breeding them to 1.5 pounds as adults, and there are beautiful sleek little 17 pound gals like Joan's Matese. JERKS. | |

| My name is . . . Zeus is Loved Make sure you check out this thread as it is great antidote to those 'know it all,' thoughtless people who make unwanted and inappropriate remarks about our Yorkies! And thank goodness those ignorant folks are few and far between, yes?! |
