| Top knot fatigue? Help! I'm starting to think that a constant topknot is uncomfortable to Joni. Of course, I don't have much evidence. She cooperates nicely with brushing and updo. I take it down every night and massage her little noggin and usually do a loose braid for sleep. She can't go without something to hold it back all night though. The times I've tried au natural, she had it all tangled in her mouth the next morning, with drool clumping it together. But a successful daytime topknot requires several redo's since I try to use scrunchies only during the week. (On weekends, if we are headed out, I'll use the tiny bands with a lightweight bow) One problem is that her hair closest to her eyes is short (hopefully not broken off but possibly ) and if I don't put the scrunchie far enough back, it flops forward in her face. So either way, she seems to constantly have hair in her eyes. I know I could do a more elaborate pin back of the loose hair, but I wouldn't want all that in my hair and doubt she wants the same. So... probably overthinking this, but what have you done in similar situation? Has anyone just gone ahead and cut it? (Really don't want to - she's just so cute with it). Groomer comes tomorrow and wanted to get some input. Tks!!! |

| I usually have to fix my boys' topknots at least a couple times a day, and I check their eyes a lot, especially Max's. We use mostly scrunchies too. When Max was a puppy and didn't have long enough hair for a topknot, he still got hair in his eyes. I would have to cut his hair really short to prevent that. If Joni's hair grows fast, a short style may require a lot of maintenance too, possibly weekly trims, especially if you end up cutting at the corner of the eyes. My boys' legs/paws require weekly trimming so that the hair doesn't wrap around the bottoms of their paws. The hair grows so fast. I've found that doing 2 bands helps with the topknot. One little ponytail closer to the eyes, then gather more hair and put a second band in closer to the ears. Some dogs do okay with a little clip or barrette, but I worry that my boys would try to swallow or chew on one if they got it out of their hair.

| Both my girls wear topknots everyday & they stay in until I cut them out at night. I use tiny rubber bands from Lainee, Ltd. & then add a barrette. I know some people don't like this but I think it's key to keeping them looking cute all day: I keep the topknot hair only an inch long past the band, so they have the little "sprout" style. They don't have a problem at night with it loose, either. Scrunchies are too heavy & don't stay in all day so I don't like them. Good luck finding what works for you.

| My girl has just started to have enough on the top of her head to have a topknot/ponytail. Unfortunately, my mother trim/cut her front area so she has this short area that sticks out when I pull it up. I keep telling her it needs to grow out and get into the tying, so it won't be in her face, but she complains that she can't see her eyes because of it >_>; hopefully she'll leave it alone. But I do know my girl doesn't care for the fancy wears or having her hair pulled up (she'll start trying to pry that thing off as soon as she could). She's used to having short on top, as well as mostly short everywhere in general. So it's either longer and hanging or short and out of the way. I'm only growing the top out because my mother insisted (a compromise, of sorts), but I do know that personally she'll only tolerate having her hair pulled up for so long ^^;; If she had her way, it'll be back to what I've been having her hair trimmed at. Short.

| I also use scrunchies for Bella in the beginning I tried a lot of stuff but if its to heavy she would just shake it out. After the scrunchy I will put a braid in and that keeps it looped to the side out of her eyes. For the short hairs I use a bit of hair gel ( mine ) or I have found KY jelly to work as well. Sometimes I will put pigtails in and I use the little rubber bands for that. Hope that helps a bit. |

I'm embarrassed to say that I'm quite lazy and leave his hair for days before combing it again. Scottie manages to leave it relatively tidy, so I've been lazy to comb it out and re-tie it up daily. But, I've recently tried two new do's since his hair is getting quite long. I too did not want to cut his hair off because it's so precious...I've never cut the hair off his head since he was a puppy (he's now almost 2 yrs). Anyway, 1) I tried doing a french braid which is very pretty. Fiancé said it makes him look like a klingon from Star Trek. I didn't really care and thought it was pretty. 2) I was inspired by the girl lead character in the new Star Wars movie and tied two top knots similar to hers: http://i1.mirror.co.uk/incoming/arti...ce-Awakens.jpg One top knot on the top of his head and then a second one further down the back of his head, so that the extra length of the pony tail doesn't flip back up to his face. P.S. I'm totally not a Star Trek/Wars fan...but somehow Scottie's hairdos were relating to them..haha.. Doubtful this helps in making your hairdo situation simpler, but just wanted to share what I've been doing
