| Lovely neighbor's escaping Yorkie! Hello, My neighbors, who just moved in, just got a 2 yo Yorkie and he keeps on getting out. Me and my other neighbor have (in total) caught him 2x in one week. I noticed that their young girl, about 6, opens the door and the dog runs out into the street. I am so worried that he is going to get hit. What advice would you recommend that I give them aside from "be careful." (They aren't very friendly.) Have you had a similar problem either yourself or otherwise? Thanks for the help!

| We trained Mario to sit at the door until I give him the release command. I can say any word I want, and he will stay there until I say "okay". Then he runs out. It is safer for him and anyone going in/out the door.

| I can relate to being in this terrible position! All I can recommend is to be friendly. When you return the dog to the home, say "I was so fearful he would be hit by a car!" Maybe work in some suggestions for containment like, "I know from my dog how hard it is to contain these little guys. I use a baby gate to block the door." Or if it is a fencing issue, suggest a fix that way. Does he have tags? If not, gently suggest that too.

| I think they should not have those dogs if they do not take care of them, sadly there is not much you can do if they dont care...makes me feel bad for those poor dogs...thanks for helping them at every chance....

| At our former home we had a neighbor family who's Yorkie was constantly getting out (and usually ending up at my house.) I got really sick of bringing her back home almost every day, they really just didn't care. One day the pup got out and they didn't bother looking for her, not even yelling for her to come home. The dog disappeared that day and they had her replaced within a week. This next pup was watched much better, though she managed to escape a few times, they did at least keep her close. Then they got a male and he is kept close to home as well. Unfortunately, they bred two... But that's an entirely different issue. :P
