| Oh what a cutie! Is it possible to move the furniture or put down pillows or something soft for him to land on? I don't know how to stop him as he would probably do it behind your back...... hmmmm maybe he wants to go for agility training???

| Lol My Beowulf does the same thing!! He is not allowed out on the balcony anymore because we're afraid he's going to think it's all good to jump. I would also love to hear any suggestions for this behavior.

| OMG he is absolutely adorable. With all the yorkies I have had, none were flyers, running at high speed and leaping onto sofas yes, but no flyers. If he is tiny he will break something. I have no advise how to stop this other then not allowing him in the room unsupervised, and when you are in the room with him, do not allow him on the sofa.

| Until you can get him to stop I would get him a soft spot to land on. Max and Sasha both jump from the couch but they only do it from the seat. But we still made sure there is a rug that runs the entire length.

| He's looks like such a character! My girl used to do that for a very short time when I first got her. One night, she dive bombed off the futon and woke the whole house with her scream. I about had a heart attack. Thankfully she was alright and didn't seem to have sustained any serious or permanent injuries. After that she was more hesitant, unless there was alot of blankets/cushion on the floor below her or we carry her down, then after she got spayed she doesn't jump down anymore, at all. Now, she just barks for someone to put her down when she wants to get down the couch/futon/something. Or if I ask her she'll get up and let me put her down, but if I ask and she doesn't she goes limp and paws away my hand :P So in a weird way I'm lucky. She never jumps off the couch without someone putting her down, but she also doesn't jump up it either without help ^^;; the only thing she "jumps/climbs up" on is the porch stairs, since all steps but the one at the bottom are short steps, so it's easier for her to hop/walk on them herself (took a bit for her to do it though). But strangely enough she rarely goes down them. She expects us to carry her down >_>; lol

| Never dealt with this, so just a weird thought...can you keep an air horn around to blow every time he jumps, in the hope it scares him out of the behaviour? A good scare that stops the behaviour is better than than broken bones or worse, BUT there may be more detractions from doing this (distracting him so he lands poorly, etc..). First, let others chime in. Maybe just use the air horn when he gets on the back of the couch to stop the potential for the behaviour?? Never tried an air horn around a dog before, so no idea of their reaction.

| I have a jumper, he's 10 now and luckily he's on the bigger side, but I still cringe when he does it! I haven't been able to get him to stop except to say STOP every time I see it. Other than that, what I don't see could be the end of him. I hate that I can't always stop him but he's going to do what he wants to do and I continue to pray he does not get hurt every day! Not the best answer, but I think you have your answer already, you pretty much can't stop him but try to protect him by lining the floor with pillows, rugs, etc. He sure is a cutie!!

| Roxy use to jump all the time, till I got some steps for her. She loves her steps, plus the treats for using them. I give her heXX when she jumps. She does a lot better now. |

And I had a good lol at the air horn suggestion - I guess it could work.. Or something else to deter him from jumping maybe? | |

YT 500 Club Member | Believe me I know all about flying Yorkies. My Ruger just turned 1 in January. I can't even remember when he hasn't jumped. Oh, yes from the top of the couch, arms of chairs. He does walk down the stairs, till about the last 2 or 3 then decides it would be faster to just launch himself. Oh yes, I'm holding my breath all the time. I've tried to stop him, but I'm afraid of too much distraction, it may cause him to loose focus. Yes, we have doggie steps for couch, he will walk up but, yep, you guessed it, fly off. Good luck to us both. Please no broken bones, knees, etc. Oh, and he weighs 6.6 lbs. so not a tiny one.

| I had an old couch which I threw out but I kept the couch seating parts and put it along the floor of the new couch. Not the nicest looking thing but it is safe when Pao jumps down. He won't even use the stairs that I bought him so I returned that. He seems to love jumping on to the soft landing and I don't have to worry about him breaking something. I would think you could use big thick pillows or something for him to land on.
