| ? about collars I have never put a collar on Spice as I worry about yorkies having weak tracheaes and dont want to irrate it , I want to keep her as healthy as she is now, BUT by the time I get her harness on when she gets up of a morning she has already started to poo. If I could snap a collar on her with a lease it would be so much faster. She is 10 mo old today and she pulls when she is excited (as in going out first thing of a morning) and that concerns me and is why I never collar her. Any suggestions? Thank you all so much. Spice and i would never have made it the past 5 mom together with out all the help you have given us♥ |

YT 1000 Club Member | Can she sleep in a harness? Then in the morning just clip a leash on her harness. I would get a very thin one that she won't hardly notice for this purpose. My dogs do not usually sleep in a harness, but on some occasions I have had to leave a harness on my dog at night, like when we are on vacation. Ours are very thin and lightweight and honestly they don't even notice them. When we travel, they keep a harness on them 24/7 while we are gone just in case we need to grab them quickly and also I have ID tags on the harness so that way they have ID on them at all times during the trip.

| All of mine wear collars 24/7 including the one with a profoundly collapsed trachea (he's almost 15). We just don't walk him in his collar. I would just keep a collar on her and take her just for potty on a lead. For long walks etc or other times, use the harness. I like these cotton collars that are 1/2 inch thick from a seller on etsy called veryvintage. She has 3/8" too if you wanted something even thinner. They're cute!

| I never used collars, instead I use a harness. My dogs are comfortable in their harness. Only problem is depending on your dog's hair, the harness can tangle their hair if worn for a long period of time. I usually take off their harness after I walk them outside. Even if it gets tangled, not a big deal, there's combs and sprays for that. |

| A quick let out on a collar to go poop isn't gonna hurt, IMO. I know what you mean about the harness being a pain to get on -- especially with young wiggly puppies. You could just snap the collar on, take her out real quickly so she poops outside, and then put her in her harness for the remainder of the walk. Jackson's a bigger boy but can have a sensitive neck. But for nighttime quick potty breaks he gets let out on a martingale collar with a flexi lead. It's no more than 60 seconds. My moms cockapoo pup had to be shaved because they left the harness 24/7 and her hair got sooo matted.

| I would never put a collar on to hook a leash to especially a pup with any chance of pulling. What kind of harness are you using?

You shouldn't leave the harness on for several days due to tangled matted hair, which is easy to comb out if you have the proper comb. The most I'd let them wear it is for 24 hours. Taking the harness off and on takes only 1 minute. You'd have to be a super lazy dog owner to not want to do that. I rather spend 1 minute than letting my fur babies suffer from a collapse trachea and it can happen if you use the collar just for walking. | |

| She loves her buddy belts for walking and I also have a vest type mesh harness and I little strap like harness. I was playing around today to see what would work the fastest and actually the little vest harness is as quick as anything. I believe it would even be quicker than a collar and lease. I am disabled and cant move as fast as she can ! LOL But in the am I am going to try the vest harness and see what happens. If that dont do it I will just let her wear it to bed and snap the lease on in the am. I keep her hair short- short for the hot summer we have already been having so the matting would not happen. And I would NEVER leave a collar on her longer than a quick minute IF I have to go that way. Again thank you from us. You all have always been such a great help to us. |

| Yes I have a collar, tags and bells on them. Keeps Emma from getting stepped on, has her info in case she's lost and I can hear what she's "in to" when she's not within eye site in the home. On walks we use a harness.

YT 1000 Club Member | When my dogs wear a harness 24/7, I still do their daily groom, so they technically come off for a few minutes, they get groomed and they go back on them. I would not want to loose my dog in a strange place and while on vacation other people do not have the "safeguards" in place that I have to keep a pup from running out the front door. I would much rather leave a harness on them and have a better chance at getting them back if they escape. It is worth it for their safety even if their hair gets a little matted, that can be combed out. Around my house they only wear a harness to go outside, but I have a gate on my porch so even if they scoot out the front door, they are still confined. Relatives houses do not have that and they are not accustomed to sneaky and quick pups running out the door the second it is opened. I open the door only far enough to go out and close it gently behind me. They have to open the door wide and then take forever to step outside, a very long time for a puppy to go running outside. I had a cat get out the same way. I could not find anyone to check on my cat as I had just moved and I couldn't leave it home for a week by itself so I had to take it with me and they let it out, luckily he came back an hour later. I would not want to worry about my yorkies being gone like that. A little matted hair that I can work out is worth it to not be as worried about them.
