I use the soft mesh harness that's available at any pet stores or online. They work the best. I don't like leather harness like the Buddy Belt as it's abrasive for the dog if they do a lot of tugging.
You shouldn't leave the harness on for several days due to tangled matted hair, which is easy to comb out if you have the proper comb. The most I'd let them wear it is for 24 hours. Taking the harness off and on takes only 1 minute. You'd have to be a super lazy dog owner to not want to do that. I rather spend 1 minute than letting my fur babies suffer from a collapse trachea and it can happen if you use the collar just for walking.
