You shouldn't leave the harness on for several days due to tangled matted hair, which is easy to comb out if you have the proper comb. The most I'd let them wear it is for 24 hours. Taking the harness off and on takes only 1 minute. You'd have to be a super lazy dog owner to not want to do that. I rather spend 1 minute than letting my fur babies suffer from a collapse trachea and it can happen if you use the collar just for walking.
The buddy belts are a lot softer then you might think and I have a puller and we have had no issues.
